Troubleshooting channels on Roku

In the vast majority of cases, adding a channel to Roku is a seamless experience. Select to add the channel, wait a little while for the Roku servers to catch up and you can select the channel on your device. Occasionally things do go wrong though.

If you tried to add Amazon Prime Video to Roku and it won’t play audio, video is of poor quality or media just won’t play there are some troubleshooting steps you can take to fix it.

Reboot your Roku

Rebooting a Roku is just like a computer when it doesn’t work properly. It resets memory, clears any misconfigurations and makes the system load the operating system again. This can be enough to fix your issue.

Use the Roku menu and select Settings and System. Select System restart from the right menu. Let the box reboot and try again.

Check the network

Roku depends on a decent internet connection to provide the viewing quality it is known for. Check to make sure your network is reachable and working okay. Select Settings and Network from within the Roku menu and check signal strength if you’re using WiFi or connection status if using Ethernet.

If you have a phone or laptop close to hand, check the internet connection there too. That’s especially useful if you’re using WiFi.

Check audio settings

Occasionally when you add a new channel to Roku, the audio settings get misconfigured. It’s a quick check and the first thing to try if you’re getting audio issues with Amazon Prime Video on Roku. Select Settings and Audio and check your audio output is set correctly.

Remove the channel and reinstall it

If your Roku is working well aside from Amazon Prime Video and you have tried these other steps, it might be worth removing the channel and adding it again. This can be necessary sometimes where channels need a secondary login like Amazon does.

  1. Go to the Roku home screen and select the Amazon Prime Video channel.
  2. Select the star button on the remote to access the channel menu.
  3. Select Remove Channel and confirm your choice.

Then just add the channel again as above.

It is simple to add Amazon Prime Video to Roku and it should work fine the first time you do it. If things do go wrong you now have several ways to fix it. Hope it helps!
