How to Add AppleCare to AirPods

Back in October 2019, Apple launched the 2nd generation of the famous AirPods Pro. They featured a new design, new features, and increased comfort. They also came with quite a hefty price tag of around $250. At $200, the regular AirPods aren’t cheap either.

With that kind of money at stake, you’ll want to learn how to take care of your AirPods. They are a quality piece of equipment, but they do require a certain level of maintenance. Here’s what you can do to make sure that your AirPods are at the top of their game.

Getting AppleCare for AirPods

Apple makes the OS, the hardware, and every other component of every single one of their devices. AppleCare features two years of Apple-certified support and service with a 24/7 priority tech support access. Additionally, you get as many as two incidents of coverage in case of accidental damage and battery service coverage.

It certainly makes sense that you should get AppleCare for your AirPods. To add AppleCare to your AirPods, do it during the purchase transaction. Whoever is making the sales is probably going to offer you this option.

If you’ve already bought the AirPods, you can still get AppleCare coverage within the 60 days of the purchase. Bear in mind that you’ll need to supply AppleCare with the proof of purchase and some other documents.

The AppleCare fee for each part of AirPods is the standard $29. It may seem expensive, but it isn’t a bad idea when we’re talking about a product that costs $250. Without AppleCare, the replacement will cost you $89 for each earbud. That goes for the charging case, as well.

Bear in mind that AppleCare doesn’t cover lost or stolen Apple products.

Don’t Expose Them to Water

AirPods aren’t waterproof. The original model isn’t recommended for workouts because it isn’t sweat-resistant. It is also not recommended that you take out the 1st generation AirPods while it’s raining outside.

A lot of confusion about whether the AirPods are waterproof r not comes from the fact that the new AirPods Pro are sweat and water-resistant. That means that you can use them during your workouts and when it’s raining outside, and you have a hoodie or an umbrella. In no way does this mean that you can play water sports with AirPods Pro.

The case that comes with your AirPods Pro that you will use to charge them is not waterproof or water-resistant. Should it get in contact with liquid, dry the case properly by opening the lid and placing the device upside-down.

With this said, AirPods Pro water and sweat-resistance aren’t permanent conditions. This resistance may increase due to regular wear.

Another vital thing to take into account is that you shouldn’t charge wet AirPods Pro. It can easily cause the device to malfunction.

Clean Your AirPods

If you want to make sure that your AirPods remain in as perfect condition as possible, you should get used to cleaning them regularly.

To clean your AirPods or AirPods Pro, do not submerge them in water or place them under the kitchen tap. Use a dry, soft, lint-free cloth. Clean them every once in a while.

If your AirPods get exposed to anything that can cause damage or stains (soaps, conditioners, sunscreen), use a cloth to clean them. You can slightly dampen a cloth with fresh water. Then, dry everything with the mentioned lint-free cloth. Do not try to use them or place them in the case until they are entirely dry.

You should, under no circumstance, use sharp or abrasive objects to clean your AirPods.

Clean the Ear Tips

While the AirPods bear the same tip shape as the EarPods, the AirPods Pro come with ear tips. These ear tips provide superior comfort, grip, and noise-canceling features. We highly recommend cleaning the tips every once in a while.

To clean them, pull off the tips from the AirPods and rinse them with water. However, before sticking them back on to your AirPods, make sure that the tips are completely dry. Bear in mind that you shouldn’t use any soap or chemicals in the process.

Clean the Case

The case that your AirPods come with isn’t just for keeping the pods tucked away in your pocket. It charges the AirPods and is an electronic device, itself. You should clean your case every time you’re cleaning your AirPods.

You should avoid getting any liquid in the charging ports. Therefore, all that you’ll be using is a soft, lint-free cloth from before. If necessary, dampen the cloth with isopropyl alcohol, but make sure that you don’t overdo it.

If you need to remove any debris stuck in the Lightning connector, use a dry, soft brush. Do not use any abrasive or harsh materials to clean the case. And don’t put anything other than AirPods in the case, as this may damage the charging ports.

Transport Them with Care

Your AirPods will be safely tucked away inside the case while in your pocket. However, you should take care of the case, as well. For starters, be careful not to drop it as it may break. Also, don’t wear too many things in the same pocket with your AirPods case, especially if they are abrasive or harsh by nature.

While at home, make sure that you store your AirPods in a clean and dry place. Also, make sure not to store them in a place with extreme temperatures.

Finally, keep the pods inside the case when you aren’t using them.

Looking After Your AirPods

Whether you’ve bought the AirPods Pro or the original model, you should follow these care and maintenance guidelines. Get AppleCare and perform regular cleaning. Also, keep them away from water and transport them with great care.
