- Before You Go…
Among Us started as a mobile game but expanded to include the PC. But there are some exceptions to playing on a Chromebook.
First, you need to be able to download the game and you need administrator privileges to install it. You can head over to the Google Play store to download the Android app to your laptop.
It only works for some Chromebooks, though, depending on the model of your Chromebook. You can check out The Chromium Projects for a list of Chrome OS Systems that support Android apps.
If your Chromebook is included on the Android app list, follow the steps below to start playing:
- Go to the Google Play Store in your Chromebook settings
- Sign in (if you haven’t already)
- Type “Among Us” in the search bar for the store
- Select the game icon
- Install the game
Unfortunately, if your Chromebook is not enabled to use Android apps, you won’t be able to play Among Us in this way.
How to Play Among Us on Chromebook for Free
Among Us is a free game through the Google Play store. To get a free version of the game, make sure that you:
- Have a Chromebook OS system that supports Android apps
- Download the app through official Google channels
Among Us is available to download on other gaming platforms, but for most Chromebook users, the Google option is the only one and it’s always free.
How to Play Among Us on Chromebook Without Downloading
Do you have to download Among Us to play the game? The short answer is “yes.”
However, if you’re adamant about not downloading the game you can install an APK of it. You have to do some searching to find the app’s APK online, but it’s out there. Somewhere.
Keep in mind, though, that if you do decide to download an APK for the game there are a few disadvantages. The main one is that Google won’t provide support for the Chromebook anymore because you have to change two options to make it work:
- Enable developer mode
- Switch off protected mode
Enabling developer mode also has the added side effect of wiping all contents from your Chromebook. Is it worth it to play the game? Probably not. But you decide…
How to Play Among Us Unblocked on Chromebook
Playing Among Us Unblocked is a trending topic online. If you don’t already know, an “unblocked” version of the game supposedly allows people to play the game for free on their PC. But don’t fall for it.
Unscrupulous publishers may promote an unblocked version of Among Us to get you to install malicious programs. If you’re in doubt about the validity of the website, your best bet to play Among Us on a Chromebook is to use the Google app version.
How to Play Among Us on Chromebook with WASD
First things first…
Among Us is taking the world by storm, but people seem to forget that it is an Android-based app. That means that it’s optimized for a touchscreen. And if you download the game from the Google Play Store, that’s exactly what you’ll get: a game limited to touchpad/gamepad use.
The Google app counts as a mobile version.
If you are still looking for an easier way to move within the game, you can always try changing the settings:
- Click on the Setting gear icon from the main screen menu
- Under the Controls heading, select “Touch”
- Back out of the menu
Touch controls work a little differently if you’re playing the game on a PC. Instead of using the touchscreen to move the way that you would on your phone, you use a mouse click. Each click acts like a tap on the screen and your character will walk to that location.
It’s not exactly WASD movement, but it beats dragging a joystick to get your character walking.
How to Play Among Us on a School Chromebook for Free
There are a few issues that you may run into when playing on a Chromebook issued by a school:
- Google Play Store is blocked

Both of these issues can end your dreams of playing Among Us before they even start.
If you want to find out if your device has restrictions that would hinder your game download, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings

Most educational institutions issue Chromebooks with school Google accounts. These accounts have certain restrictions that may ban game installation. But if you see the plus (+) icon in Accounts, that’s good news. You can add your personal Google account and download it from the Google Play Store.
How to Play Among Us on a Dell Chromebook

For example, these Chromebook models can play Android games from the Google Play Store:
- Chromebook 13 (3380)
- Chromebook 3400
- Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1 (7486)
You can find a comprehensive list online published by The Chromium Projects.
If you see that your Chromebook supports Android apps, you just need to go to the Google Play Store and download it.
How to Play Among Us on an HP Chromebook
