How to Play Among Us on a Chromebook

Among Us started as a mobile game but expanded to include the PC. But there are some exceptions to playing on a Chromebook.

First, you need to be able to download the game and you need administrator privileges to install it. You can head over to the Google Play store to download the Android app to your laptop.

If your Chromebook is included on the Android app list, follow the steps below to start playing:

Sign in (if you haven’t already)
Type “Among Us” in the search bar for the store

Unfortunately, if your Chromebook is not enabled to use Android apps, you won’t be able to play Among Us in this way.

Among Us is a free game through the Google Play store. To get a free version of the game, make sure that you:

Have a Chromebook OS system that supports Android apps

Among Us is taking the world by storm, but people seem to forget that it is an Android-based app. That means that it’s optimized for a touchscreen. And if you download the game from the Google Play Store, that’s exactly what you’ll get: a game limited to touchpad/gamepad use.

If you are still looking for an easier way to move within the game, you can always try changing the settings:

Click on the Setting gear icon from the main screen menu
Under the Controls heading, select “Touch”
Back out of the menu

Touch controls work a little differently if you’re playing the game on a PC. Instead of using the touchscreen to move the way that you would on your phone, you use a mouse click. Each click acts like a tap on the screen and your character will walk to that location.

It’s not exactly WASD movement, but it beats dragging a joystick to get your character walking.

How to Play Among Us on a School Chromebook for Free

There are a few issues that you may run into when playing on a Chromebook issued by a school:

Google Play Store is blocked
You don’t have administrator rights

Both of these issues can end your dreams of playing Among Us before they even start.

If you want to find out if your device has restrictions that would hinder your game download, follow these steps:

Go to Settings
Select Accounts

Most educational institutions issue Chromebooks with school Google accounts. These accounts have certain restrictions that may ban game installation. But if you see the plus (+) icon in Accounts, that’s good news. You can add your personal Google account and download it from the Google Play Store.

You can play Among Us on a Dell Chromebook as long as the model has an OS that supports Android apps.
