How To Cancel your CBS All Access Account
As television entertainment has evolved in recent years, there are more and more examples of channels or networks packaging their programming as a one-channel deal, breaking the old bundling model of the cable providers. One such innovator is CBS All Access, a premium version of the venerable television network that makes certain content available only online and only to CBS All Access subscribers. CBS All Access is thus in competition with other streaming services such as Netflix, HBO, Hulu, and various others. CBS All Access offers shows such as American Gothic, Star Trek: Discovery, Blue Bloods, Big Brother, Bull, CSI, and other series, as well as NFL and NBA games. Fans of many CBS primetime shows know that they can get access to that programming through Hulu, but Hulu doesn’t have access to all of them, and many current headliners are CBS-only, so if you like to keep up to date then you have to do it through CBS All Access.
If you enjoy the programming they offer, CBS All Access is relatively affordable. The ad-free version of the service costs $9.99 a month, while you can get an ad-supported version for $5.99 a month. There is a one-week free trial available, if you are unsure about whether or not the programming meets your specific needs. In return for your money, you are allowed to watch CBS programming (including their regular non-All Access fare) on two different devices at once, and All Access supports Roku, Apple TV, Xbox One, Chromecast, and most other streaming devices. You can also use the CBS app to watch their shows on mobile or tablet, too.
However, if you find yourself not using your CBS All Access subscription, or if you do use it but have run through all their current content and would like to stop paying for the service until new shows drop, then you may want to cancel your subscription, at least for the time being. In this article, I will present a brief tutorial on how to cancel your CBS All Access account. Fortunately, like other streaming services, there is no contract for your All Access subscription, so you can cancel (or resubscribe) at any time without any consequences other than the loss of access to their content.
Cancel your CBS All Access subscription
The specifics of how you go about cancelling your subscriptions depend on where you initially signed up for the subscription. If you took out your CBS All Access subscription directly with the company, all account administration is performed on the website. You can cancel, renew or modify your CBS All Access account from there.
- Log into your CBS All Access account.
- On the My Account page, locate Cancel My Subscription.
- Click the button and confirm your decision.
- Confirm it once more on the cancellation terms page.
- Tell CBS why you’re cancelling and confirm once again.
The usual rules apply. You will retain access to your content until the already-paid-for period expires, so there’s no need to wait until a renewal period to cancel; you can just renew, and then still watch your content until the subscription runs out. Once expired, you will need to subscribe again to gain access.
Cancel your CBS All Access subscription through iTunes
If you’re an Apple user, you can manage all manner of subscriptions through iTunes. It keeps all your payments and credit cards in one place, but it means you have to cancel through iTunes rather than directly with CBS.
On a Mac:
- Log into iTunes using your Apple ID.
- Select Account and View My Account.
- Enter your password and select View Account.
- Select Settings and Manage next to Subscriptions.
- Select CBS All Access and then Cancel Subscription.
On an iPhone or iPad:
- Select Settings and iTunes & App Store.
- Sign in using your Apple ID.
- Select Subscriptions and then CBS All Access.
- Select Cancel Subscription.
The same rules apply here as they do if you cancel directly with CBS; you still have access to your premium content until the billing period ends. You will then need to subscribe again to access the content, if you decide you want to.
Cancel your CBS All Access subscription through Roku
If you’re a Roku user, you may have set up your subscription through the Roku Channel Store or website. You probably saw this coming by now, but if you set the subscription up there, then you will need to cancel it there, too. Fortunately, cancelling is as easy there as any of these other methods.
- Navigate from the Home screen to the Channel Store on your Roku device.
- Select CBS All Access from the channel list and select Manage Subscription.
- Select Cancel Subscription.
You can also cancel any channel subscriptions from the Roku website, if you would prefer to do that instead of only using your Roku device.
CBS All Access and other streaming platforms are great for binge watching a series or watching NFL, but they will soon become stale or boring, but with no contract and simple pick up and put down management, you can use these services as and when you want to. At least now you know how to cancel CBS All Access if you want to.
