How To Cancel Your CBS All Access Account
More and more people are cutting the cord and canceling their subscriptions to expensive cable television packages. This is the day and age in which we eschew cruising multiple channels throughout the day, trying to find something to watch. Instead, this is the Age of Binge Watching. Increasingly, consumers are switching to a pick-and-choose model where they subscribe to channels one at a time or in small bundles, so that they can get exactly what they want, on demand, without paying for a bunch of content they aren’t interested in. One such channel is CBS All Access, a premium version of the venerable television network.
CBS All Access makes certain content available only online and only to CBS All Access subscribers. CBS All Access thus competes with other streaming services such as Netflix, HBO, Hulu, and various others. If you’re a Star Trek fan, All Access is a huge draw, with programs like Star Trek: Discovery, Picard, Short Treks, and After Trek. There are also a slew of comedies, dramas, and late night options, as well as NFL and NBA games. While it’s true that you can access any mainstream CBS shows via Hulu, the offerings don’t include all of everything, so if you like to keep up to date on CBS programming then you have to do it through CBS All Access.
For what you receive, CBS All Access is relatively affordable. The ad-free version of the service costs $9.99 a month and includes downloads and offline watching, while you can get an ad-supported version for $5.99 a month. Subscribers can enjoy a week’s trial free to determine which level of service they require. In return for your money, you are allowed to watch CBS programming (including their regular non-All Access fare) on two different devices at once, and All Access supports Roku, Apple TV, Xbox One, Chromecast, and most other streaming devices. You can also use the CBS app to watch their shows on mobile device or tablet.
There are plenty of advantages to subscribing to CBS All Access, but as with all good things, you may find yourself ready to cancel your services. Perhaps you’ve binge watched all of the programs in your favorite series. Maybe the budget has gotten a bit tight, and you need to cut back where you can. Whatever your reason for needing to cancel, we’ve got the directions you need! In this article, I will show you how to cancel your CBS All Access account. Fortunately, like other streaming services, there is no contract for your All Access subscription, so you can cancel (or resubscribe) at any time without any consequences other than the loss of access to their content.
Cancelling Your CBS All Access Subscription
The specifics of how you go about cancelling your subscriptions depend on where you initially signed up for the subscription. If you took out your CBS All Access subscription directly with the company, all account administration is performed on the CBS website. You can cancel, renew or modify your CBS All Access account from there.
- Log into your CBS All Access account.
- On the My Account page, locate Cancel My Subscription.
- Click the button and confirm your decision.
- Confirm it once more on the cancellation terms page.
- Tell CBS why you’re cancelling and confirm once again.
The usual rules apply. Since you pay in advance for CBS All Access, after you cancel you will retain access to your content until the already-paid-for period expires, so there’s no need to wait until a renewal period to cancel. Just cancel and then watch your content until the subscription runs out. Once your subscription is expired, you will need to subscribe again to gain access.
Cancelling Your CBS All Access Subscription through iTunes
If you subscribed to CBS All Access via iTunes, then you have to manage the subscription through iTunes. Subscribing to content channels via iTunes keeps all your payments and credit cards in one place, but it means you have to cancel each individual service through iTunes rather than directly with the content providers.
On a Mac:
- Log into iTunes using your Apple ID.
- Select Account and View My Account.
- Enter your password and select View Account.
- Select Settings and Manage next to Subscriptions.
- Select CBS All Access and then Cancel Subscription.
On an iPhone or iPad:
- Select Settings and iTunes & App Store.
- Sign in using your Apple ID.
- Select Subscriptions and then CBS All Access.
- Select Cancel Subscription.
The same rules apply here as they do if you cancel directly with CBS; you still have access to your premium content until the billing period ends. You will then need to subscribe again to access the content, if you decide you want to.
Cancelling Your CBS All Access Subscription through Roku
If you’re a Roku user, you may have set up your subscription through the Roku Channel Store or website. You probably saw this coming by now, but if you set the subscription up there, then you will need to cancel it there, too. Fortunately, cancelling is as easy there as any of these other methods.
- Navigate from the Home screen to the Channel Store on your Roku device.
- Select CBS All Access from the channel list and select Manage Subscription.
- Select Cancel Subscription. You’ll receive a message that tells you how much time you have left in your subscription.
- Confirm your decision by selecting Cancel Subscription again.
- Click Done.
You can also cancel any channel subscriptions from the Roku website, if you would prefer to do that instead of only using your Roku device.
CBS All Access and other streaming platforms are great for binge watching a series or watching NFL, but with no contract and simple pick up and put down management, you can use these services as and when you want to.
Cancelling a CBS All Access Subscription the “Old Fashioned” Way
If all else fails, you can cancel your subscription to CBS All Access the old-fashioned way – by calling someone on the phone and bugging them until they cancel your subscription for you. The number for CBS subscription services is (888) 274-5343, but be advised that many people report having to wait on hold a long time to get through to an operator. Be sure to have information such as your account number or email address and credit card handy so you can confirm data as you go. Bear in mind, this method might not work if you bought your subscription through iTunes, Roku, or another third-party provider.
Keep Using CBS All Access…for Free?
If the only reason you’re canceling your CBS All Access account is the expense, and if you subscribe to a cable service or a premium Internet TV service, then you may be entitled to free access to the CBS All Access programming. A large number of cable providers give you access to CBS All Access live programming (not streamed content though) at no additional charge. If you are a subscriber to any of:
- Frontier Communications
- PlayStation Vue
- YouTube TV
- Service Electric Cablevision
then CBS All Access live programming may be included with that subscription. We always recommend double checking before doing anything rash, but if this is the case, you can go ahead and cancel your paid subscription to CBS All Access. Just follow these steps:
- Sign into your CBS All Access account.
- Select the “Link Your Provider” page or follow this link.
- Enter your provider information.
And now you should be able to access the live content from CBS All Access whenever you wish, at no additional charge.
