How to Change Your Name in PUBG

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is one of the biggest games in the world right now. With more than 1 million daily active players, the game is undeniably huge. When you sign up for a new PUBG account, you have a single chance to choose your name (in-game nickname). Once you have selected it, you will be stuck with it for a good while. The name you choose is an important decision. It is the one other players see when you kill them, and it is the name they will see on the leader boards. Make it a good one.

Can You Change Your Name in PUBG: Battlegrounds?

If you couldn’t think of a cool name or used one you thought was great in the very beginning and want to change it, you’re in luck! There are a few different ways you can change your name in PUBG. None of them are instant, though, so it’ll take some patience to get it done.

Purchase a Rename Tag in PUBG: Battlegrounds

The easiest way to change your name is to buy a Rename Card. Here’s how to do so:

  1. Go to the PUBG mobile shop and select the “Others” tab.
  2. Purchase the Rename Card. It will set you back 180 BP.

Participate in Certain Events to Get a PUBG Rename Tag

Sometimes, certain events like an update can “spawn” a Rename Card. Check the “Events” section periodically to see if one appears in a box. Here’s how to get the card:

  1. Go to “Events” to collect your reward, or to see if any are available.
  2. Go to inventory and open the “Box” item to receive your Rename Card, if one exists.

Complete Missions to Get a PUBG: Battlegrounds Rename Tag

If you don’t want to purchase a Rename Card, you only have one option left: completing levels 3 and 10. There are also times when PUBG: Battlegrounds offers rename cards for completing other levels or activities. By the current default, here’s how to get your free Rename Card:

  1. Complete level 3 and level 10 in PUBG: Battlegrounds, or any limited offers available to get the free Rename Card.
  2. Collect the mission rewards, which will include a free Rename Card.

Using a PUBG Rename Tag

Regardless of how you acquired a Rename Card, here’s how to use it:

  1. Go to your inventory, tap the crate icon, and select “Use.”
  2. A prompt will pop up that will let you type in a new name.

Note: You cannot use a name that is already in use. If you’re stuck, try adding numbers or symbols after the tag to get it approved. Also, note that you can only change your name a max of once per day, so don’t go crazy with creating a new name!

Coming Up with a Good Name for PUBG

As the number of times you can change your name in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is limited, it’s a good idea to give the one you are planning to use a decent amount of consideration. Some players tend to have a few go-to names that they use across games, which get kept around, so they don’t have to waste time figuring one out in a new game. If you’re drawing a blank, here are a few quick tips for creating a good gaming name.

Keep Your Name Short and Sweet

You do not want to type a long name or a name with lots of letters and numbers in it every time you log in. Keep your gaming name short and sweet. Not only does that move make typing more manageable, but it will make it much more understandable over TeamSpeak or Discord if you use voice chat.

Tune Your Gamer Name to the Genre

Different types of games often reflect related names. There is no point in calling yourself “DungeonMaster” or “Spellflinger” in PUBG: Battlegrounds, as the name does not make sense in that context. Tune your nickname/gamer tag to the game, and it will get much better reception. For example, something gun- or survival-related like “HiKaliber” or “Surfiverr” would be appropriate for PUBG: Battlegrounds.

Don’t Create a Risky or Offending Name

Even if you’re nine years old, don’t name yourself something a nine-year-old would – or something overtly misogynistic, racist, or just plain dumb. There are all sorts of childish or stupid names in PUBG, and they immediately give the impression that the player is not someone you would want to team up beside. They may be the best player on the server, but gamers usually don’t want to work with someone with a gamer tag like “Filthypantyraider!”

Can You Also Change Your Appearance in PUBG?

Aside from your name, your appearance also plays a part in how you get perceived in PUBG. If you were impatient to begin playing and didn’t spend as long as you should have to create your avatar, you can go back and change it—for a fee, of course.

Appearance changes do not include clothing. They are dealt with separately. Appearance here means your gender, hairstyle, hair color, face shape, facial features, and skin color.

It costs a good chunk of BP to change your appearance in PUBG. Depending on how good a player you are, that’s quite a bit of farming action to change your appearance. If you have the BP to spend, here is how to do it:

  1. Navigate to the main menu in PUBG.
  2. Select “Customization,” then “Appearance.”
  3. Set your gender, hair color, style, face and skin color as you need.

You don’t have to pay to change your clothing in PUBG. The limitation here is that you have to have unlocked a clothing item to use it. Changing clothes can be done from the Customization menu. You can also buy clothing items from Steam or unlock them in-game for free.

In closing, the key to a good PUBG: Battlegrounds name is to take your time and choose wisely. After all, you’ll most likely get stuck with the name you picked for quite a while! Free Rename Tags are hard to obtain, but, at the least, you can always purchase them if you don’t want to wait!
