How to Clear Amazon Fire Stick Viewing History

These days, pretty much anyone with a decent internet connection pays for some form of streaming service. Amazon’s range of Fire TV devices is one of the more popular set top tech options out there, and the Fire TV Stick is probably the best known and easiest to use of the bunch. They allow you to not only view Amazon’s extensive library of movies and TV shows, but also the majority of the best streaming services directly from your TV.

However, if you share your Fire Stick with friends or family, there’s a good chance that at some point, they’ll watch something that just doesn’t appeal to you. While this in itself isn’t much of an issue, it can skew your what to watch next recommendations. That’s why we’ve put together this guide on how to clear your viewing history, to ensure that you don’t have to wade through Peppa Pig to get to The Mandalorian.

How to Remove Items from Your Recently Watched List

Unfortunately, deleting your viewing history from your Fire TV Stick isn’t quite as simple as, say, deleting your browser history. Amazon uses everything that you’ve viewed to provide you with suggestions on what to watch next. Therefore, it’s in their best interest to maintain a list of what you’ve watched to try and persuade you to rent or buy something related

Before starting, make sure that you’ve got your Fire Stick plugged in to your TV, that the TV itself is switched on, and that your Fire Stick is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network.

How to Remove TV Shows from Your Recently Watched List

Here are the steps you’ll need to take to remove television shows from your viewing history:

  1. Go to the TV tab on your Fire Stick’s home screen, and select it.
  2. Browse through the list of shows to find one that you want to remove from the list.
  3. Select the Remove from Recently Watched option.

This should delete it from your list. If you want to remove other TV shows, then simply repeat this process for each one. Doing this won’t remove any purchased content from your Video Library, so you’ll still be able to watch anything you’ve paid for already.

How to Remove Movies from Your Recently Watched List

The process is pretty similar to removing TV shows from your history. Here’s what you’ll need to do to remove movies from your Recently Watched list:

  1. Go to the Movies tab on your Fire Stick’s home screen, and select it.
  2. Browse through the list of movies to find one that you want to remove from your list.
  3. Select the Remove from Recently Watched option.

Again, if you want to remove more than one movie from the list, you’ll have to find each one and remove it individually.

Deleting Your Amazon Prime Viewing History

Some users have reported an issue with this process, where they’ll delete shows or movies from their Recently Viewed list, only for them to stubbornly reappear on the list the next time they go to the home screen. This method might help to persuade them to stay gone, if your mileage may vary.

  1. Open your computer’s web browser, and go to
  2. Sign in to your Amazon account.
  3. Hover your cursor over the Account & Lists option to the top right of the window.
  4. Click on Your Prime Video on the drop-down menu.
  5. Click on Settings to the top right of the window.
  6. Click on the Watch History tab.
  7. Click on the View Watch History button.
  8. You will see a list of all of the shows and movies that you’ve watched through Amazon Prime. Click on the Removed this from watched videos link below the name of the video.

If you want to keep it in your list, but don’t want to get recommendations based on that show or movie, instead of removing it from your watched videos by clicking the link, you can click on the checkbox to the right of the video titled Don’t Use for Recommendations.

Pretty Sure I Didn’t Watch the Teletubbies…

While having a Fire Stick can provide you with a handpicked, personalized list of recommended shows to watch based on your previous viewing habits, all it takes is for a friend or family member to watch something weird for it to start throwing you curveballs.
