How To Clear from Recently Watched on the Amazon Fire TV Stick

Posted by Arch on November 21, 2018

Amazon is one of the biggest providers of video content on the web, together with Netflix, Hulu, and such. Its Amazon Video service can be accessed through a large number of devices, including Amazon’s own line of Fire products (Kindle Fire, Fire Phone, Fire TV, and Fire TV Stick).

Fire TV Stick is among the most popular solutions for users who want to watch Amazon Video and Amazon Prime Video on their smart TV sets. It is affordable, easy to use, and offers a great user experience. The trouble, though, is that the Fire TV Stick does not support individual accounts and all watched content is found on one big list. If you want to delete a watched show or movie from your Fire TV Stick’s Recently Watched list, for obvious or not-so-obvious reason, read on.

What is Amazon Fire TV Stick?

First, let’s take a look at what is the Amazon Fire TV Stick. It is an affordable and portable variant of the Fire TV, Amazon’s premier device made for use with smart TVs. Instead of a box, Fire TV Stick comes in the shape of a standard USB stick. The processor, memory, and storage are all packed into it to save space and reduce the cost of the device.

Once plugged in and installed, Fire TV Stick works the same way as its bigger sibling and offers a very similar experience. Differences are minute and come down to the availability of certain options. For example, Fire TV Stick can’t be controlled by voice, while the box version can. Apart from that, the two offer largely the same range of possibilities.

How to Clear Items from Recently Watched List?

Let’ say you’ve been watching your favorite documentary series, your mom watched her soap, while dad binged on his favorite reality show. You also had some friends over and with them you watched some football and action movies. With all shows and movies heaped on top of each other, the “Recently Watched” list might look a bit hectic and hard to navigate in case you’d like to find an episode of that documentary series and watch it again.

So for cleaning up the list, there’s a quick and easy solution. Before you start, you’d want to make sure your TV is on and your Fire TV Stick is properly connected. After that, there are two ways to remove items from your Recently Watched list – through the “TV” section or “Movies” section.

Remove a TV Show

If you want to remove a TV show, follow this path. First, navigate to the “TV” tab in the “Main Menu” and select it. After that, you should browse for the TV show that you want to delete from the list. Once you’ve located it, you should select the “Remove from Recently Watched” option. Your Fire Stick will then remove the unwanted item from Recently Watched. Repeat the same process if you have additional items to remove. This will, however, not remove the item from the “Video Library”, as the content you purchased is on the cloud and can’t be deleted via a Fire TV device.

Remove a Movie

If you want to remove a certain movie from Recently Watched, the procedure is largely similar to the one above. First, locate the “Movies” tab in the “Main Menu” and access it. After that, find the movie that you want to delete from the list and select it. Then, choose the “Remove from the Recently Watched” option. If there are more videos to remove, repeat these steps as necessary. Bear in mind that this will not remove the film from your “Video Library”.

Remove from the Recent Carousel

Based on your activity, Fire TV Stick will display a set of recommendations from the “Recent” section on the “Home” page. The recommendations will be shown in the form of a carousel. If you’d like to remove an item (regardless of its type) from the carousel, simply navigate to it and select the “Remove from Recent” option. This will remove the item from both the carousel and the “Recently Watched” list. Again, deleting an item from the carousel will not remove it from the library or from your device.

Conclusion

Having a messy Recently Watched can be really inconvenient, especially for users who share their Fire TV Stick with roommates or family. It is, therefore, handy to know how to clean it up from time to time. Hopefully, you found this article interesting and helpful.
