How to Delete All Apps on the Kindle Fire

Amazon’s Appstore contains thousands of interesting apps for your Kindle Fire tablet. You wouldn’t be the first user that’s fallen into a trap of downloading an app too many.

Since nobody has time to try them all, they can remain on your device, taking up valuable storage space, and sometimes even slow the device down while they work in the background.

The best way to solve this issue is to simply remove all apps that you don’t want to use. Also, if you’ve grown tired of your tablet and want to sell or give it away, you might want to remove all apps from it.

Is It Possible to Remove All Apps at Once?

If you’re wondering how to remove all apps from your Kindle Fire at once, you should know that such option doesn’t exist. The only way to remove all apps at the same time is to perform a factory reset.

However, this will not only remove all apps, but also remove all data from the Kindle Fire and restore it to initial settings. This includes updates, stored files, images, apps, books, and user data. So, before you opt for this, you should back up all important files. If you don’t, you’ll lose them forever.

On the other hand, there’s no need to worry about purchased apps and books that are linked to your Amazon account. When you factory reset the device, you can just download them again for free.

Also, keep in mind that there’s no way to remove all apps from any device. Kindle Fire has a set of apps integrated into its Fire OS system that is vital for its performance (Silk browser, Settings app, app, Amazon Appstore, etc.). So, even if you remove most of the installed apps, the device can never be completely “app-free.”

To perform a factory reset, you need to do the following:

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to access the notifications bar.
2. Tap the “Settings” button (gear icon).
   
3. Select “Device Options.”
   
4. Tap “Reset to Factory Defaults.”
   
5. Select “Reset” again when prompted.

This will start the reset process, which should restore your Kindle Fire to its factory settings. When it’s finished, it will boot up the system again and you can set up your account once more. You won’t find any apps that you’ve subsequently downloaded and installed.

Uninstall Apps Directly from Kindle Fire

Maybe you can’t remove all your apps at once, but you can easily remove them one-by-one from your Kindle Fire.

1. Press the “Apps” tab on the Kindle’s Home screen.
2. Select the “Device” menu on the following screen.
   A list will appear containing all the apps that you’ve installed on your Kindle Fire. You can choose to sort the apps from the most recently installed, or by title.
3. Long-press the app that you want to remove.
4. Press “Remove from Device.”
5. Confirm the removal when prompted.

Do this for every unnecessary app to swiftly free up some storage space.

Removing Apps the “Hard” Way

There’s another way to remove apps from the device. However, since this is a more complicated process, many users avoid it.

1. Swipe down from the top of the Home screen.
2. Select “Settings.”
3. Tap the “Applications” menu (older) or “Apps & Games” (newer Fire tablets).
   
4. Press the dropdown menu beside the “Filter by…” section.
5. Choose “All Applications.”
   
6. Tap the app that you want to uninstall.
7. Select the “Uninstall” button when the app menu appears.
8. Confirm when prompted by tapping “OK.”

Manage Apps from Your Amazon Account

All apps and games that you download from Amazon’s store are linked to your Amazon account. So, whenever you switch an Amazon device you can use the same apps that you’ve purchased on the previous devices.

If you can’t access your Kindle Fire for some reason, you can remove the unwanted apps from any other device. Follow these steps:

1. Open the desired web browser on any device that’s connected to the internet.
2. Go to Amazon’s official web page.
3. Sign in to your Amazon account by clicking the “Welcome” button at the top-right of the screen.
4. Go to the “Manage Your Apps” page from your account menu. You’ll see the list of all apps and games that you’ve purchased up until that point.
5. Select the “Actions” button next to the app that you want to delete.
6. Choose “Delete this app.”

Note: This won’t only delete the app from your device, but also from your account. So you’ll need to download it again and sometimes even re-purchase it if you opt for this method. Furthermore, if you have other Amazon devices synced to the same account (Fire TV, phone, etc.), they’ll lose the app, too.

Don’t Stockpile Apps on Kindle Fire

As you probably noticed, piling up apps can eat up a lot of storage space, as well as RAM. Although Kindle Fire is by no means a lightweight device, you shouldn’t hoard a bunch of apps since they may hamper its performance. Instead, try to only keep the ones that you actively use.

You don’t have to worry about losing valuable purchased apps that you may want to use in the future. They will stay on your Amazon account and you can reinstall them on your Fire tablet at any time.
