How To Delete All Followers on Instagram

Posted by Arch on November 25, 2018

Instagram lets you share moments of your life that you believe are worth seeing. With time, you create a base of followers who get a glimpse into your everyday life through their feed.

If you feel like giving your Instagram account some refreshment and limit the number of people you want to share your important moments with, removing followers is the way to go. But what happens when you have hundreds, or even thousands of them?

Well, this is where a mass delete feature would be very useful.

Unfortunately, such option isn’t available. Instagram doesn’t allow you to delete multiple followers at once, neither can you delete all of them by using the built-in features.

So what can you do?

Well, there are a couple of options at your disposal, so let’s take a look at them.

Manually Deleting Your Followers

This is far from a convenient option, but it’s the only one that Instagram offers. If you don’t want to use a third-party app to remove your Instagram followers, you’re going to have to remove each of them manually.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. From the home page, navigate to your profile by tapping on the profile icon in the bottom-right.
  2. Tap the Followers button to open the list of all your followers.
  3. Use the search function to find a person you want removed, or scroll through the list until you find them. Once you do, hit the three dots icon next to their name.
  4. Tap the Remove button to delete them from your list. Keep in mind that there’s no pop-up window that will ask you to confirm the removal, so be sure that you want to remove the person before doing it.

If your profile is unlocked, the only thing this does is remove the person from your list of followers. They’ll still be able to see your posts, so if you want to make sure they can’t do it, set your profile to private.

If you haven’t done it already, here are the steps you need to take:

  1. From your profile, open the menu by tapping on the hamburger icon at the upper-right corner of your screen.
  2. From the side menu, tap the gear icon located in the lower-right of the screen.
  3. Navigate to the Account Privacy
  4. Toggle the button next to Private Account to on.

Once you’ve done this, people will have to send you a follow request in order to see your profile. This means that after you’ve removed a person, they’ll see that your account is locked.

Your followers won’t receive a notification that you’ve block them, nor will they be able to know it unless they type your handle in search.

If you don’t want to set your account to private but still want to make sure certain people don’t follow you, the only thing you can do is block them.

You can do this from the same menu from which you remove your followers, you’ll just tap Block instead of Remove. After the confirmation window pops up, tap Block again.

These are the only built-in features that allow you to remove people from your list of followers. If you want to mass delete them, you’ll have to go with a separate app.

Using a Third-Party App

There are a few good apps available for both iOS and Android that let you mass delete your followers. They all work in pretty much the same way: they show you a list of your followers and allow you to select multiple, or all of them, after which you can unfollow them in one tap.

Many of these apps are free, so they’re a good solution for everyone wanting to delete all their followers.

They also have many other features that allow mass deletion, such as:

  1. Bulk delete posts
  2. Bulk unlike posts
  3. Bulk block users
  4. Undo feature for the activity log
  5. White list manager

With third-party apps, always make sure that they don’t misuse your personal information, as this is often the case with the free versions.

The Final Word

Until Instagram rolls out a mass delete feature, these are your only options for removing followers. If you have thousands of them, a third-party solution is your best bet.

Or, you can take some time to do it manually from the followers list within the app itself. It might take a while to do this, but if you have some time on your hands, now you know how to do it.
