How to Delete All Watch Later Videos on YouTube

Posted by Arch on December 20, 2018

Watch Later is one of the favorite features of many YouTube users. Let’s say you stumble upon a video while being stuck in traffic and you want to make sure you don’t forget about it after your drive. Or you might be in a rush to get to somewhere and you’re sure you won’t be able to find the video later.

These as well as many other situations call for someone to designate a video as Watch Later. In a way, it’s like an ecommerce site’s “Save for Later” so you don’t forget.

But how many times have you added a video to your Watch Later list only to forget about and never watch it? It has probably happened more than a few times. In time, navigating through the list gets increasingly hard as there would be a ton of videos to go through before you find the one you really want to watch.

This is where purging the videos from the Watch Later list becomes a good idea.

Can You Delete All Watch Later Videos at Once?

Unfortunately, YouTube doesn’t want you to just get rid of all Watch Later videos at once. So you’re not going to find a mass delete function. Many users will find this quite disappointing, especially those that have a lot of videos on the list.

The only thing you can do with YouTube’s available features is to remove each video separately. Here’s how to do it:

On iPhone or iPad

  1. Navigate to the Library tab in the upper-left corner.
  2. Tap Watch Later to open the entire list of saved videos.
  3. Tap the three-dot icon at the top right corner of the video that you want to delete.
  4. Tap the Remove from Watch Later button.
  5. Press OK to confirm the removal.

For Android

The new version of Watch Later for Android allows you to remove the video using the above method. However, if you don’t have the newest version, things are only a little different. Here’s what to do:

  1. Go to the Account tab.
  2. Under the Playlists section, tap on Watch Later.
  3. Tap the three-dot icon next to the video details.
  4. Tap Remove from Watch Later.
  5. Tap OK to confirm.

On the Desktop version of YouTube, this becomes more convenient. Once you’ve entered the Watch Later list, all you have to do is hover over the video that you want to remove and press the X button. Confirm the deletion if prompted.

Even though none of these options are complicated, they’re still not nearly as convenient as a mass delete feature would be. Luckily, tech-savvy people always find a way around such issues.

Using a Script to Remove All Watch Later Videos at Once

Many apps and platforms lack the much-needed mass delete features. But their desktop versions (combined with the proper browser) allow for the use of scripts that can help you overcome many inconveniences. YouTube is no exemption, and there’s a script that can help you remove all your Watch Later videos with ease.

Here’s what you have to do:

  1. Open YouTube in Google Chrome and navigate to the Watch Later list.
  2. Press Ctrl + Shift + J to open the console.
  3. Paste the following script:

var items = $('body').getElementsByClassName("yt-uix-button yt-uix-button-size-default yt-uix-button-default yt-uix-button-empty yt-uix-button-has-icon no-icon-markup pl-video-edit-remove yt-uix-tooltip");
function deleteWL(i) {
setInterval(function() {
items[i].click();
}, 500);
}
for (var i = 0; i < 1; ++i)
deleteWL(i);

Immediately upon pressing Enter you should see the videos start to disappear. The process isn’t exactly lightning fast, but it’s the easiest way of removing all Watch Later Videos in one go.

It should be said that messing with scripts isn’t for everyone. The script has been verified to work, but there are many of them out there that may not have been fully verified. Some of them might even be malicious enough to seriously damage your computer. To prevent this from happening, only look for scripts from reputable sources instead of the ones posted by random people in various forums.

The Final Word

Since mass deletion isn’t really YouTube’s thing, the last solution you saw here could be the best. If there aren’t that many videos to remove, you can just do it manually. Still, if you’ve accumulated thousands of them, this might not be that good of an idea and the script may be the way to go.

thank you so much. i don’t care how slow it is. it’s nice not to have to click hundreds of times. now if only i can still click on a small icon on the video thumbnail to add to watch later instead of the aggravating method they pulled from the mobile version where you have to click the 3 dot thing then click add to watch later. an extra unnecessary step and why i hate using the mobile version.
