A lot of people online are complaining about being unable to delete their Groupon account. While it may not be easy and straightforward, deleting the account is definitely possible, and it isn’t all that difficult either. Here’s more about deleting your Groupon account.
Why You May Want to Delete It
Groupon is an online marketplace that allows its users to purchase coupons from their website and use them locally to obtain goods or services at discount prices. This can be very useful for companies, as well as for individuals. However, Groupon is a service that is widely known for its inbox-spamming nature. The blame really isn’t on the company, as offering deals and discounts is what keeps the wheels turning. However, to you, this may be nothing short of an inbox flood.
Think about whether you may need Groupon in the future. If you think you might need your Groupon account in the future, consider other options. For instance, you don’t have to delete the account in order to stop receiving emails from the company. Deleting your account may be a bit of a hassle, but managing your email subscription is fairly easy.
Simply head over to groupon.com (you can also access this page through every email that you receive, the link is usually located near the bottom of the email) and sign in. Once signed in, click your name at the top right corner of the screen to access your Account Settings and navigate to My Email Subscriptions. Go through the list of emails and uncheck boxes next to all email types that you no longer wish to receive. If you want to completely unsubscribe, just uncheck all boxes. Click Save and that’s it!
Once you’ve done this, you’ll no longer receive emails from Groupon.
Deleting Your Groupon Account
If you, for whatever reason, wish to delete your Groupon account, this will take some time. You’ll have to file a deletion request and wait until it’s been reviewed. However, you shouldn’t experience any issues here, as it is fairly certain that Groupon will acknowledge your request and remove your account completely.
Strangely, there isn’t a direct “delete account” option on Groupon’s website. No matter how hard you may look, you won’t find it. Regardless of the reason for the lack of an option that is regularly included on most other websites, you’ll have to dig in here a bit.
First, head to the services official website at https://www.groupon.com . Log into your account, but this time, don’t go to your Account Settings. Instead, navigate to the Help page and find the Other Questions option. In the available text field, enter Delete account and hit Enter.
In the next window, you’ll see the “Did this resolve your issue?” question and two options: Yes, That Solved It and No, I Still Need Help. Click the latter. Next, you’ll see Contact Options, with the live chat option being the recommended one. Unfortunately, in order to delete your Groupon account, the best and the quickest option is through live chat. Now, click Live Chat. Once in contact with a customer service representative, tell them that you want your account deleted.
Some people may find the Live Chat option uncomfortable. This is normal, and there are other options that are much more convenient. However, these options may take more time. If you choose Email Groupon under Contact Options, you can send Groupon email with your deletion request. Keep in mind that it might take a few business days for Groupon to review your request and get in touch.
Request a Call is also a valid option that will take more time than the Live Chat route, but significantly less than the email option.
Awkward Deletion Options
Whether the reasons for Groupon to make account deletion so clunky are legitimate or not, this is what you’ll need to do to get your account deleted. Bear in mind that you can always avoid the hassle by simply unsubscribing from their email list.
Why do you want to delete your Groupon account? What is your preferred option? If you have any questions, ask away in the comments.
