How to Delete Multiple Instagram Posts

For many, posting something online has become a daily norm. Whether a witty tweet or deeply thought-out caption under an Instagram photo. Even if you’re not an influencer and social media isn’t your livelihood, you undoubtedly post something every now and then.

But, over time, posts add up. And you might find yourself thinking it’s time for an overhaul of your Instagram account. This can include unfollowing accounts you no longer like, but can also mean deleting a lot of the posts you no longer identify with. So, how do you delete multiple Instagram posts?

One at a Time Just Won’t Do

Imagine yourself, post-breakup, with hundreds of photos of you and your ex, happy and carefree on your Instagram grid. Once treasured memories now painful to recall, memories you want to get rid of. Are you supposed to select each photo you want to delete and do it separately? According to Instagram, yes. And the web version won’t let you even do that! Granted, it lets you alter your followers and following lists, but that’s where the freedom to change things ends.

This poses a real inconvenience for anyone wanting to rid themselves of multiple posts in one sitting. For whatever reason, you want to get it over with as quickly as possible. It could be that your influencing career is flourishing and now your Instagram page needs a certain look. But this could mean spending a lot of time and mental effort to get it done. Fortunately, there’s a couple of ways you can expedite the process.

Third-Party Apps

Since Instagram doesn’t offer this feature, you may have to make do with third-party apps. Not always an ideal choice, but overall, they can help you out. The majority of apps created for this purpose cover all the bases when it comes to cleaning up your Instagram. Meaning you can use them to delete multiple posts, unfollow and block accounts, and accept multiple followers as well.

It’s a particularly useful tool for those with Instagram pages that have a lot of traffic but aren’t necessarily celebrities with staff that manage their social media accounts. If you have an iPhone, the app to download is InstaClean.

For Android users, options aren’t so good, but you might want to take a shot with Cleaner for Instagram. This app lets you delete five photos at a time before it asks you to pay for an upgrade. Both apps are free, but they do contain in-app purchases. This isn’t really a surprise, as most users are used to getting only teasers and making the best of them.

Hashtag Shortcut

There’s another way to make deleting multiple Instagram posts faster. It requires a little bit of work, but it’s going to save you time overall. Especially if you’re looking to delete a lot of photos scattered all over your timeline. But you’re going to need a computer, as this process requires using the web version of Instagram. This is what you need to do:

  1. Log into your web Instagram account.
  2. Scroll down and look for all the posts you plan to delete.
  3. Use your mouse cursor over the photo you’re aiming to delete and right-click on it. Proceed to select the “Open link in a new tab” option.
  4. Now, think of a hashtag that no one is using, something like #delete and then a sequence of random numbers. Add this hashtag to all the posts you’re planning to delete.
  5. Now open the Instagram app on your phone and go to hashtag search. Type in the hashtag you created, and you’ll see all of the posts that you’ve assigned with that hashtag.
  6. Click on each post and then select “Delete” from the menu.
  7. Repeat until all of the posts are deleted.

Granted, this might take a while, and can almost seem like it’s not worth the hassle. But, when you have a lot of posts you want to remove, and you’re not looking to use third-party apps, this could be your best solution. This way, all the posts listed after the hashtag search are the ones you want gone. The alternative is to go through your Instagram timeline and maybe delete some photos by mistake if you lose track of what you’re doing.

A Much-Needed Feature

Instagram should step up and add the option to delete multiple posts. It’s almost certain that the majority of users would be grateful for it. You never know when you might find yourself in a situation where you need to delete multiple posts. Why not have that option on hand?

But, for whatever reasons, most social media platforms don’t really listen to their users and take a long time to make a change. Meanwhile, users are left to search for third-party solutions and different shortcuts.
