How Many Streams Does AT&T TV Now (Formerly DirecTV Now) Allow at Once?

When it comes to picking from various streaming services available online in 2020, there are two main types to choose between. The first type is probably the one you’re most familiar with: over-the-top streaming. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video—all of these services offer streaming video on demand in the form of both original programming and legacy titles.

The second type, however, is much newer. As cable TV continues to lose subscribers, online cable packages have become more and more popular. We’ve seen plenty of these options sprout up from the past few years, including Hulu with Live TV, YouTube TV, and the now-defunct PlayStation Vue. One of the best options around, however, has come from DirecTV. Originally called DirecTV Now and recently renamed to AT&T TV Now, DirecTV’s online streaming offerings are some of the best you can find today, with a wide variety of channels and content suitable for all ages.

Of course, with channels available for the whole family, the obvious question persists: how many streams are allowed at once with AT&T TV Now? Read on to find out.

How Many Streams Are Allowed at Once?

If you don’t live alone, you’re probably sharing your AT&T TV Now subscription with someone else. Just a few months ago, you could stream content on two devices at the same time, if you were on one of the regular packages. However, if you added $5 to your monthly subscription, three devices were able to stream videos simultaneously.

As of January 2020, AT&T decided to keep up with the competition, and you’re now able to stream from three devices at the same time, without any additional charges.

What Devices Can I Stream on?

As mentioned above, the app is compatible with a large number of devices. You can watch content from AT&T TV Now on Android and iOS devices, on Apple TV (and the 4K edition), Amazon Fire TV, Roku, and Google Chromecast. Note that your Apple TV needs to belong to the fourth generation, while your Amazon Fire TV needs to be second-generation or later.

Android devices need to run the 4.4 software to support the app, and if you have an iOS, it needs to be the iOS 9 or a later version. You can also stream AT&T TV Now on an Amazon Fire Tablet.

What Plans Are There?

AT&T TV Now offers two plans: the Plus package and the Max package. For those who don’t watch TV too much, the Plus is probably a more reasonable choice. You get access to more than 45 channels at $65 per month. The other option is the Max package, which costs $80 per month and allows you to watch over 60 channels, including some live regional sports networks.

If your favorite channel is HBO, you should probably pick the Plus or Max packages because they include HBO channels for free. If you opt for another package, you can add HBO channels and pay the additional $15 per month.

Note that there’s a one-week free trial so you can check out the app before you decide what package is the right one for you. There are also promotions available on their official website from time to time, even though they haven’t been very frequent recently.

What’s the Difference Between DirecTV and AT&T TV Now?

The DirecTV service is a satellite dish, and it offers a wider variety of channels, up to 315 in total. This also means it’s a more expensive service than the streaming app. You need to have a TV, a Genie box, and a satellite dish to watch DirecTV and before you opt for this service, you need to check if it’s available in your area.

On the other hand, you can stream AT&T TV Now anywhere in the U.S. It offers a shorter list of channels, but it’s compatible with many devices, and three people can stream on different devices at the same time. All you need is a stable Wi-Fi network with decent speed.
