Disney Plus is a brand new streaming service that’s only a couple of months old. With that in mind, you can’t expect it to be flawless. There are some common Disney Plus issues as reported by the users, such as the buffering issues.
Our advice is going to help you determine the reason why you have playback problems on Disney Plus so that you can fix them. Some of them are hardware related but most are software related.
Start with Your Internet Connection
First of all, check your internet connection and make sure that it is stable. If possible, you may want to try a cable connection in lieu of Wi-Fi. That way you will ensure that you’re getting the best signal.
The official Disney Plus recommended internet speed is 5.0 Mbps if you want your content streamed in high definition (720p or 1080p) or 25 Mbps if you want to stream in 4k Ultra HD. This is the bare minimum though, and you should probably have even higher speeds for the best performance.
If your internet is up to par then Disney’s recommended internet speeds should suffice. It is also smart to declutter your connection, i.e. use it solely for streaming without any other devices connected.
If your internet isn’t the problem, look into the other fixes below. If your internet is too slow, talk to your ISP about upgrading the package or switch to a better ISP.
Make Sure the Software Is Updated
Just tap the link while on your device and select Update. You can also delete the app and then download it again from the official app store. Follow these steps:
- Delete the Disney Plus app from your device.
- Turn your device off and on again (restart).
- Visit the official app store, download and install the latest version Disney Plus.
Also, make sure that your streaming device is running on the latest OS version. Check your device’s settings, probably under the System tab. The path may vary depending on the type of device.
Check the Hardware
The hardware is also very important. Believe it or not, Disney Plus recommends cables for the best streaming experience. If you are using a smart TV, Roku, Fire TV, etc. you should use the following cables: HDCP 2.2.
These cables serve high quality, high speed streaming without buffering, especially in UHD streaming. Make sure that your device is compatible with these cables.
It goes without saying that you should only use a device that supports Disney Plus. You wouldn’t even be able to use this streaming platform otherwise.
Try Restarting Everything
You can also try the old reliable restart. Some call this a power-cycle. This is when you shut everything off and on again. Everything includes your streaming device, your modem, and router. Do the following:
- Start with the modem and router. Turn them off by pressing the power button or unplug them from the power source.
- Then turn off the streaming device that you are using (TV, tablet, computer, etc.)
- After a good minute or so, turn the modem and router back on.
- Turn your streaming device on.
This power-cycle has the power to resolve many playback issues, including buffering. Launch Disney Plus again on your streaming device and see if the issue is still there.
Clear Out the Cookies and Cached Data
Whenever you use your browser, some of the data is stored as cache, and so are the website cookies. But sometimes this can overload your browser, especially if you haven’t cleared its cache in a while. In essence, the steps are as follows:
- Launch your browser.
- Go to options or settings.
- Choose History or Privacy.
- Finally, clear the recent history, cache, and data. Make sure to select and remove everything.
You can do this on Android tablets and phones as well, by accessing the settings, finding apps, followed by storage. Here you can clear the cache and data from any app, including Disney Plus.
Sometimes a little patience goes a long way. Disney Plus is still new and sometimes the service can get overloaded. There are many users and the servers can get too busy at times, which can also cause buffering and other playback issues.
