Does Badoo Notify the Other User When you Screenshot?

What is Badoo? Is it free to use? Why am I being asked to verify? Does Badoo notify the other user when you screenshot? What are the privacy options? Is Badoo the same as Tinder? Does it use the same approach and rules? All these questions and more will be answered here!

Badoo has been around for a decade now and has quietly influenced the dating landscape in some subtle ways. Where Tinder and Grindr have been content to grab headlines and be in the mainstream, Badoo has been working away at improving its offering and adding news ways to date and interact.

What is Badoo?

Badoo is part dating site and part social network. It’s part dating and part friendship and is a real mix of people, cultures, wants and needs. It boasts over 420 million users worldwide with 1.5 million daily users. The demographic is late teen and early 20s but there is a mix of older people on there too.

It works a lot like other dating sites. You register for an account, set up a profile, add some pics and then start using it.

Is Badoo free to use?

Yes and no. Like its contemporaries, Badoo has a free version and a premium version. The free version allows you to use many features of the site but you will need to pay if you want certain features. Some key features are behind a paywall such as the ability to see who liked you, to see who added you as a favorite, to go Incognito, to chat with new users, to send Crush notifications, to give gifts and a few other minor things.

The free account can use search and browse members, send messages, flirt, play the Encounters game, comment and see who visited your profile. So while there are limitations, using the site is okay for free users.

Why are you being asked to verify your Badoo account?

Badoo knows that free dating/social sites tend to attract a certain kind of user so has put a verification system in place to try to weed out the scammers and catfishers. When you add an image to your profile, you may be asked to verify your identity. Badoo will send you an image of a person in a pose. You have to take a selfie of yourself mimicking that pose exactly. Once a moderator has verified the pic, your account is then verified.

If you ignore the request to verify your account will be locked down and you will not be able to access it until you complete verification.

Does Badoo notify the other user when you screenshot?

As far as I can tell Badoo does not notify you if someone screenshots. There is no obvious mechanism for tracking activity like that within the app or browser app. You should bear this in mind with Badoo as you would with any app. Even temporary ones like Snapchat. While some apps have the ability to detect screenshots, there are lots of ways to take a snapshot without the app picking it up.

What are the privacy options?

There are a bunch of privacy options in Badoo depending on what you’re looking for. Most will be accessible from within the Account settings screen and will include hiding your account, changing your name, changing location, controlling who can contact you and blocking. You can also hide the fact you’re online at all if you just want to browse or chat without being bothered by other people.

Badoo’s Privacy Policy can be found here.

Is Badoo the same as Tinder?

Yes and no. Badoo has a dating and hookup element the same as Tinder but it is equally about making friends and just being sociable. It does not have a matching algorithm like Tinder does either. Finding matches is more about location and then browsing said location and doing the hard work yourself.

Badoo Encounters helps a little by gamifying matching. It will show profiles with similar interests to you and let you like or not with the heart or X.

Does it use the same approach and rules?

Any dating or social app is going to be about the looks. It’s a sad fact but true. Therefore, many of the same rules that apply to Tinder apply in Badoo too. Make your profile pics as good as you can make them, say something interesting or witty in your profile and try to be imaginative when chatting or reaching out.

While your endgame might be different to Tinder, the same basic rules of attraction apply whether you’re looking to hook up or make friends.

Badoo is the same and different to Tinder at the same time. It’s a neat app that lets you make friends, find a date or something more serious. Have you tried it? Like it? Had any success on it? Tell us about it below!
