How To Download All Your Facebook Photos – 5 Different Ways
If you want to download all your Facebook photos, there are several ways to do that. It’s amazing how fast you and your friends can collect images and how much of a picture you can build by sharing them. If you want to download them to keep them safe, build an album or whatever, you can. I will show you five ways to download all your Facebook photos.
Facebook is the one social network that is still popular many years on. All the others ebb and flow and some disappear while others fade into the background. Facebook has managed to stay current through all of that and is likely to be the one place you have collected the most photos. Let’s say you have a bunch of photos and images you want to download from Facebook. How do you do it?
1. Download images the Facebook way
The ‘official’ way to download your Facebook photos is to open them up individually in the photo viewer app and download them. That’s fine if you only have a few or want to save them as you see them but not so good if you have a few dozen or even a few hundred photos you want to collect. If you have them organized into albums, skip this step and move on to the next.
Nevertheless, it is a way to download your Facebook photos.
- Open the time in the Facebook image viewer.
- Click Options at the bottom of the screen and select Download.
This will download the individual photo to your device. Scroll through each one and repeat for each photo you want to download. It is a little laborious but it gets the job done unless you’re dealing with numbers.
3. Download albums through Facebook
If you have your images sorted into albums, Facebook has another way to download them. This is great if you’re the organized sort or find it quicker to create an album than using some of the other methods I list here.
- Open an album in Facebook.
- Click the little cog icon in the top right of the album.
- Select Download Album.
This will download all images within the album to your device. It saves downloading them individually but requires all images to be within that album.
4. Use an Android app to download your Facebook photos
The Android app Photo Saver for Facebook is a decent option for downloading images from the social network. It isn’t the only app that does this but it is one of the more reliable. A number of apps I tried when researching this piece were either too complex or just made life too difficult. This app just got the job done.
- All you need to do is install the app and use Facebook on the same device.
- Open an image, tap the menu, then Share and select Photo Saver.
- Select where to save the image or just confirm.
This leaves all your Facebook photos on your Android device to do with what you wish. They quickly take up space so it might be a good idea to use cloud storage or copy them across to your computer.
4. Use the Facebook Messenger app
The Facebook Messenger app for iOS (and maybe for Android) allows you to automatically save photos to your Camera Roll. If you use the Messenger app a lot to share photos, it will be very useful indeed to have them automatically backed up to your device.
Technically, this isn’t a way to download all your Facebook photos, but to collect them as you go along. But this trick is simply too useful to be ignored. As someone who uses this app, I can attest personally to how useful this can be!
- Open the Facebook Messenger app on your device.
- Tap the Settings icon in the bottom right.
- Select Save Photos to Camera Roll.
Every time someone shares a photo within the Facebook Messenger app, a copy will automatically be copied to your Camera Roll. If you share images often, this will quickly use up storage so it might be a good idea to back them up and delete local copies.
5. Use a Chrome extension to download your Facebook photos
The final way to easily download your Facebook photos is to use a Chrome extension. The descriptively titled Download FB Album mod is a Chrome extension that not only allows you to download your own photos and albums but some albums posted by friends too. As long as the albums are public, the app can download those for you too.
If like me, you’re in a club and you’re featured in lots of club images, this extension is incredibly useful.
- Navigate to the Download FB Album mod while using Chrome and install it.
- Navigate to a Facebook album you want to download.
- Click the tiny Facebook icon next to the Chrome URL bar on the right.
- Select Normal and let the app collect all the images.
- It will then download them to your device.
The UI isn’t the most intuitive ever but you can soon find your way around. As long as you’re not using cell data, select no compression when setting up the download for best results. Downloading via a Zip files keeps everything nice and tidy. You can then extract them on your device.
Those are five ways to download all your Facebook photos. Each does things slightly differently and on different platforms. There is going to be one here that works for yours. There are lots of other ways to collect photos from Facebook including using cloud storage and even an IFTTT recipe. However, each of these five get the job done.
While this guide concentrates on photos, at least some of these techniques will work on videos too. If you’re an avid collector of media, one or more of these techniques will work.
