Using the Samsung Smart Hub

Downloading and installing the app is a no-brainer. But there are a few things to do prior to the installation to make sure your Samsung Smart Hub is running like clockwork.

One-Step Prep

To take advantage of Samsung Smart Hub, your TV needs to be connected to the internet. For a more stable connection, use an ethernet cable even though your Samsung TV works well on Wi-Fi. Then you need to configure the Network Settings – select Menu, click Network, then proceed to Network Settings. Expect to be asked to provide a password for the network.

Internet connection out of the way, you now need to set up the hub. Select the “Set Up Smart Hub” button at the bottom left of the screen and follow the wizard. This is basically a menu that allows you to customize the hub to your needs.

Downloading Disney Plus

Go to the TV’s home screen, select the search icon, and type Disney Plus. The app should instantly appear under search results, select it to access the Disney Plus window.

Click Download or Install under the app thumbnail image and wait for the download to complete. Once downloaded, the app will go to the My Apps window that’s located in the Apps menu. You can move the app to the home screen for easier access.

Highlight Disney Plus and hold down the Select or Enter button on your Samsung remote. Now, you can move the app to the desired position on your home screen.

Disney Plus – How to Sign up

When it comes to sign-up, you have two options. Sign up before you download the app or do it once you open the app on your Samsung. Here’s a quick overview of the required actions.

Browser Sign-up

Go to your computer, launch a browser, and access the Disney Plus official page. Hit the “Keep Me Updated” button and fill out an online form with your information. At the time of writing, Disney Plus wasn’t officially released and the sign-up button may be different when you access the site.

Be that as it may, you’ll receive a confirmation email from Disney and you can now use the credentials to log into your account. The same credentials apply to all devices that feature the Disney Plus app.

App Sign-up

Open the Disney Plus app from Samsung Smart Hub and choose “Start Free Trial” in the welcome window. The free trial period is only seven days, but that’s fair if you consider the relatively low price of the service.

Anyway, you’ll be asked to provide your credentials and, again, there’s a confirmation email. Then you can proceed and log into your account. During the initial log in, Disney Plus will ask you to come up with a password for the service. Make sure to remember it because there’s no autofill option, should you decide to log out.

Side Note: Disney Plus sign-in UI is really well-laid-out. There are no unnecessary steps, confusing menus, or lengthy forms.

Screencasting Method

If you can’t download Disney Plus on Samsung Smart Hub, there’s an option to cast the screen from your Samsung smartphone to the TV. The feature is called Smart View or Screen Mirroring and it’s available on Galaxy Note II and later models such as the Galaxy S8.

As for the TVs, the F range that has had a few iterations since 2013 utilizes Wi-Fi for screencasting. Needless to say, both your TV and the Smartphone need to be connected to the same network. And there are two methods to initiate the mirroring.

Hit the Source button, find Screen Mirroring source and choose it. The TV then waits for your smartphone to make the connection. Alternately, you can press the Menu button, choose Network, hit Select, and then choose Screen Mirroring.

Once you have the TV ready for mirroring, grab your phone, swipe down to access the quick menu, and tap Screen Mirroring. Your Smart TV should appear under suggestions, tap it and you’re good to go.

Note: The screencasting method assumes you’ve downloaded and installed the Disney Plus app on your Samsung smartphone.
