Player Unknown Battlegrounds (PUBG) started the mainstream ’Battle Royale’ genre. Recently, the team behind PUBG released the ‘Lite’ version of the game for beta testing in certain countries around the world.

What is PUBG Lite PC & Where To Download

This ‘Lite’ version, which should run smoothly on most lower-tier configurations, keeps rising in popularity every month. With the recent announcement that the beta test will expand to India, it is becoming obvious that the light-weight mode is the next big thing in the world of PUBG.

What is exactly is this game, how can you get a hold of it, and why is it so popular? Read this article to find out.

What Is PUBG Lite PC

PUBG Lite PC is a recent release from PUBG Corp. Its aim is to help owners of lower PC configurations to effortlessly run PUBG on their machines.

When a multiplayer online game amasses a fan base like PUBG’s, the developers need to constantly work on improving their game. They do so with patches and fixes that allow the game to stay up-to-date with the new graphics requirements. This is why the initial system requirements of PUBG and those of today are completely different.

But the release of PUBG Lite is the first time that the game is downgrading its original system requirements – all this while maintaining the same graphics and gaming experience. So far, it has enjoyed great success in all the countries in which it was released.

What Are the Required Specifications for Playing PUBG Lite?

Since PUBG’s main purpose is to run smoothly on lower-end configurations, you don’t need to have a powerful system to enjoy it.

It requires a minimum of 64-bit Windows 7 OS and higher. You also need an I3 dual-core processor that clocks at 2.4Ghz and at least 4GB of RAM. You need a graphics card similar to Intel HD 4000, as well as 4GB of storage space. With this configuration, you will run the game with occasional frame rate drops. However, those should only happen during intense gaming moments.

The recommended configuration is a Core Duo I5 CPU that clocks at 2.8Ghz with 8GB of RAM memory. You should have either an NVidia GeForce GTX 660 or an AMD Radeon HD 7870.

Compare the above specifications with PUBG’s regular system requirements: Intel Core-i5-4430 CPU or AMD FX-6300, 8GB RAM, as well as NVidia GeForce GTX 960 or AMD Radeon R7 370, both with 2GB of video RAM.

It’s easy to see that you can play PUBG Lite with worse configurations and still have the same gaming experience.

Which Countries Can Play PUBG Lite?

At the moment, PUBG Lite is being beta tested in a limited number of countries. It was initially released only in Thailand, under the name ’PUBG Project Thai.’

After its massive success in Thailand, it was released in Brunei, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Singapore, Laos, Myanmar, and Indonesia.

Soon after that, the beta version of the game became available in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau. Most recently, it expanded to Brazil and Turkey, with a plan to launch in India too.

We don’t yet know which country will release PUBG Lite next.  If you are currently in any of the mentioned countries, you can play the game. If not, you will have to wait until the game expands to your region.  However, you can use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to go around the restrictions and play the game from a different country.

Playing PUBG Lite If You’re from a Non-Supported Country

There’s a way to play PUBG Lite outside of your coverage area, but you’ll have to use a virtual private network (VPN).

First, you need to create an account at the official PUBG website. Then, download the game at the PUBG Lite website by clicking on the ’Download’ button at the top-right of the page.

You can use a VPN service such as Express VPN to connect to the server of a country that supports PUBG Lite Beta. For example, you can connect to its Singapore server and change your computer’s time zone to Singapore. If you don’t change the time zone, the game will not launch.

Since the validation of your location occurs at the start of every match, you can disconnect from your VPN once you are in the plane. This way, you can prevent connection issues that may happen due to the VPN. You can also save on the bandwidth of your VPN since free packages are usually limited.

Is PUBG Lite PC Regularly Updated?

PUBG Lite has the same frequent update process as its regular counterpart. The first released version contained only the Erangel map, which was the first map ever released for PUBG.

Since Project Thai, PUBG Lite got three more maps, countless new weapons, cars, and skins, as well as regular patches that fix some minor glitches. There are also new gaming mods coming with new patches.

Will PUBG Lite PC Be Available on Digital Gaming Platforms?

As of now, the only alternative gaming platform that can launch PUBG Lite is Garena. So you can download the game and play via the official PUBG launcher, and you can also use Garena PC.

With Garena, you will be able to connect to other PUBG Lite users, make buddy lists, check on achievements and progress, and chat with other users. You can also play the game on the same servers regardless of the platform.

PUBG Lite PC – A Multiplayer Revolution?

What PUBG Lite did is unseen in the popular multiplayer gaming world. In a bid to appease their users who can’t afford better configurations, they made a game that is less demanding than before, while offering similar features, mods, other in-game variations as with the complete version.

If PUBG Lite PC succeeds, it may become a revolutionary point in multiplayer gaming history, and various other MMO games may follow the same path. Are you a PUBG enthusiast? Tell us your thoughts on this development in the comments below.
