How To Edit or Remove from the Amazon Video Recently Watched List
Amazon Prime Video is constantly improving its service, but it still lacks some of the features its competitors offer. For example, there are no user profiles that would allow each household member to have their own private viewing history. Instead, the service lumps all their viewing histories together. If you’re sharing your account with a friend, a roommate, or a family member, this means that they will be able to see what you’ve watched on the homepage. So whether you have several roommates all sharing a television, or you live at home with your entire family, knowing how to edit or remove content from your Recently Watched list can be a useful skill.
In this guide, we’re going to take a look at how to delete videos from your Recently Watched list. Whether you’re trying to hide just how much America’s Next Top Model you watch, or you’re looking to remove shows your friends and family watched on your television, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s dive in.
Removing Recently Watched Videos from the Homepage
Whether you’re using Prime Video on your app or your computer, the “Watch Next TV and Movies” category on the front page will show a carousel-style thumb gallery of your recently watched programs. This includes movies and TV seasons in the order you viewed them, starting with the most recent.
In theory, this category is there for your convenience. It allows you to continue watching your shows from where you left off in just a few clicks or taps. Without it, you would have to manually search for the show, then pick the season from the drop-down menu, and then scroll down the page to find the next episode. But other people who use the same account can just as easily see what you’ve watched and make fun of your tastes.
Luckily, removing videos from this section of the website is very easy. Start by clicking on the blue “Edit” link above the “Watch Next TV and Movies” section.
A large “X” sign will appear at the center of each thumbnail in this section. Click the one on the thumbnail of the show that you want to remove from your recently watched list. Once clicked, the show in question will disappear immediately. After you’ve finished removing titles from your recently watched list, click on the blue “Done” link above the section.
And that’s it. The “Watch Next TV and Movies” section on your homepage no longer displays the show you’ve just removed.
Of course, if you happen to watch this show again in the future, it will reappear on the list. There’s nothing to worry about, as you can remove it again following these simple steps.
Removing Videos from Your Watch History
It is important to know that this only removes the video in question from the homepage. It will still be saved in your watch history and anyone who can access your account will be able to find it there. Of course, they will need to know where to look for your viewing history in the first place. As such, chances are they won’t see it, especially if they are a bit technologically challenged.
Still, if you also want to remove this video from your watch history, here’s how to do it. If you’re using the standalone version of Prime Video, click on the small profile icon in the top right corner of the page and select “Account & Settings” from the drop-down menu. If you’re a Prime subscriber and access the service via Amazon’s website, click on the “Settings” link in the top right corner of the page, right below the header.
This will take you to the settings page, where you have to click on “Watch History”. On this page, you will see all the videos you’ve watched, including the one you’ve just removed from the “Watch Next TV and Movies” section on the homepage. To remove the video from your history, simply click on the “X” sign next to it.
The video will promptly disappear from the page and you’ll see a message that confirms its removal from your watched history.
Like Netflix, Prime Video uses your watch history to improve your personalized recommendations. That’s why your homepage is suddenly filled with reality show recommendations every time after watching a few episodes of “Survivor” or “My Strange Addiction”. Removing them from your watch history will solve this issue and restore the recommendations to the way they were before your late-night reality binge.
Removing Videos from Both Lists at Once
To save time, Amazon Prime Video allows you to remove a video from your watch history and your homepage at once. To do this, follow the steps explained in the previous section to access your watch history page. Then click the “X” sign next to the video you want to remove. Once again, the video will immediately disappear from your watch history and you’ll see the standard message confirming its removal.
Now go back to the homepage and you’ll notice that the video you’ve just deleted is also gone from your “Watch Next TV and Movies” section. That way, if you want to ensure that no one finds out about your guilty pleasure TV show, you don’t have to delete it from both sections separately. Simply removing it from your watch history will do the trick.
The Final Word
If you’re sharing your Prime Video account with others, knowing how to delete videos from your recently watched list might come in handy. Removing a video from the “Watch Next” section of the homepage is usually enough to hide it from others. But if you believe they may look at the settings page, it might be best to remove it from your watch history.
That way, no one will know about your love of reality TV and cheesy Lifetime movies. What’s more, indulging in an evening of bad TV won’t have a negative effect on your personalized recommendations.
