How to Enable JavaScript on the Amazon Fire Tablet

Web browsing is often taken for granted. We just search for stuff and visit web pages without noticing how smooth our web experience is. The real hero behind all of that seamless browsing is JavaScript. Without it, you wouldn’t be able to experience the internet in all its glory. Luckily, every web browser out there has JavaScript enabled by default. If by any chance your Fire tablet browser doesn’t, here’s how to enable it.

Enabling JavaScript

There’s really nothing to it, and you can do it in less than 20 seconds.

Kindle

  1. Open the web browser on your Fire tablet.
  2. Press the Menu icon, located in the bottom center of the screen.
  3. Press Settings.
  4. Scroll down until you see “Enable JavaScript”. Press the checkbox next to it.

Well, that was easy. But if you want to know more about JavaScript, and what websites make the most use of it, carry on reading.

What Is Javascript?

JavaScript is a programing language used by most popular web browsers. Its primary goal is to make the web pages and your experience using them more fluid, non-intrusive and interactive. Pretty much any aspect of your web experience is coded with JavaScript, even if you’re unaware of it. Especially then!

The language was developed way back in the 90s. Before then, when you visited a web page, it was non-interactive. Nothing happened when you moved your mouse over an icon or link. No dropdown menu appeared when you started typing. Everything was static; all you could do was click and load new pages.

When JavaScript appeared, it brought energetic animations, responsive content, and fluid web pages. Now, it’s impossible to go back to a time without JavaScript. And the good thing is, you don’t have to – it’s present on every single web browser you use.

How Does JavaScript Work?

JavaScript is an algorithm that can perform actions from your device entirely, without the need to communicate every step to the server. This means that if you opened and loaded a page completely, you’ll still be able to interact with it, even without an internet connection. This doesn’t mean that you can load new pages or access any additional data, however.

Java

Pretty much everything on a page is being done by JavaScript, from Google auto-completing your search, to YouTube and Netflix playing video and audio.

And that’s not all. The most important functions it performs are handled in the background, without interrupting your browsing experience in any way. All of which makes everything you do seamless.

Websites That Show the Power of JavaScript

Now that you know what JavaScript is and does, it’s time to see what websites show the full capabilities of the language.

Feed

Feed is an incredible combination of animations and videos, that provides you with the most immersive experience ever. It’s an unusual site that really pushes the boundaries of what websites are capable of.

Clouds Over Cuba

Clouds Over Cuba is a dynamic and interactive documentary, where you can learn all about the events surrounding the Cuban Missile Crisis. With smooth and cinematic animations and top-notch sound design, you won’t be able to take your eyes from the screen.

The History of Climate Change

This is an educational website focusing on the history of global climate change. The experience is simply breathtaking, with creative animations that draw you in completely.

JOHO’s Bean

This website tells a story; the story of the simple coffee bean. It does so through visuals, interactive and fluid animations, and incredible sound design.

A Tool We Can’t Live Without

JavaScript isn’t just a programing language, it’s what allows many creative and talented people to create a story that we can experience and immerse ourselves in fully. Without it, everything we do online would be static and lifeless. With it, we have a glorious and seamless experience every time we go online.
