How to Find Your Moments on Dubsmash

The most popular way to keep in touch is to send video messages, pics with captions, stickers, gifs, and all other fun stuff. This kind of form of communication offers a lot of room for creativity. Young people, especially, have embraced online social platforms.

Even though not as big as Facebook or Instagram, Dubsmash offers a plethora of engaging features. This unique app lets you pick an audio snippet from movies and music record a video of yourself dubbing over that piece of audio. Lip-syncing and dance challenges are all the rage on Dubsmash.

Dubsmah Moments

Dubsmash had a grand entrance into the world of social media, but it stumbled in the branding area. The company started in Germany in 2014, but it since relocated to New York. This move coincided with major changes within the management and leadership of the company. It also led to an overhaul of the Dubsmash’s interface and features.

Before Dubsmash re-launched on October 19, the users could only send videos to each other through off-platform messaging apps. Now Dubsmash users can do it without leaving the app. You can also follow people and get followers.

Dubsmash also had a feature called “My Moments” that was visible only to your friends. After the overhaul, that feature was removed.

Also, in September 2016, Dubsmash announced via Twitter that they are introducing a feature called “Community Moments.” However, it, too, is missing from the latest update.

It took Dubsmash some time to find its footing. Also, the creators don’t market it as a social media platform, but rather an “entertainment app.” So it’s not trying to compete with the likes of TikTok and Snapchat. Not yet, anyway.

Where to Start with Dubsmash?

If you’re curious about Dubsmash and all the fun features it offers, you first have to create an account. Start thinking about usernames and passwords. Then proceed to:

  1. Download the Dubsmash app for your Android or iPhone.
  2. Launch the app from your device.
  3. Enter a valid email address.
  4. Select a username. No profanity, though. Those profiles get erased by the company.
  5. Select a password.
  6. Log in.

Note about the password: At the beginning of 2019, hackers stole 620 million accounts from 16 websites and sold them on the dark web. A percentage of compromised accounts belonged to Dusmash users.

Dubsmahs has since notified its users and urged them to change their passwords. It’s unlikely something like this will happen again. But, making sure that your password is extra strong is always a good idea.

How to Add Your Sound to Dubsmash?

You can use Dubsmash to explore the dubs and choose which ones you like. But you can also upload your sounds and record your dubs over them. That is a recipe for a lot of fun. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Go to your Profile page.
  2. You’ll notice three sections: Videos, Favorites, and Sounds. Select “Sounds.”
  3. Next, tap the big “Add New Sound” button. Record your sound using your phone’s microphone. You can also add a sound you have in your gallery already.

Note: Every sound you upload will appear in the “Sounds” tab.

When it comes to uploads, you’re not limited to audio tracks. You can upload a video, and the app will extract the sound and discard the video. You are allowed to upload sounds up to 15 seconds long, and you can trim them down to 10 seconds, which is the duration limit for a Dub.

Make Every Moment Count

Whether or not Dubsmash will be able to challenge larger music-oriented apps remains to be seen. However, it’s easy to use, and it won’t overwhelm you with unnecessarily complicated features. Maybe the app gets another overhaul in the future, but it seems like the current formula is working.
