How to Use Firestick Without Wifi

The Amazon Fire TV Stick is one of the most popular devices for streaming exclusive movies and TV shows. It also turns any standard TV into a smart device, allowing you modern features, such as screen sharing, playing music, playing video games, and so on.

However, most of these features are unavailable without a stable internet connection. There are a few things you can do with the Fire TV Stick without an internet connection, but your options are minimal. Keep reading, and we will explain how it works.

How It Works

As we said before, Amazon Fire TV Stick needs a stable internet connection to work correctly. All Amazon Prime movies, TV shows, and music are streamed directly from the internet. Without a connection, you will only be able to use installed apps that don’t require internet access. However, even that will be limited since there are no controls or other options.

Fire TV Stick and Kodi

Kodi is one of the most popular platforms for streaming movies and TV shows. You can download and install it on your Fire TV Stick. Kodi, in turn, allows you to download your favorite videos directly to the Fire TV Stick, allowing you to watch them offline.

You will be able to use the app the same way you would with a connection, but you won’t be able to access the online library, only the saved videos. Download what you need in advance, and you won’t need a connection at all. That way, you can enjoy your favorite movies and TV shows anywhere and at any time.

Play Android Games

The Fire Stick also allows you to install Android games you can then play on your TV screen. If a game doesn’t require internet connection, you can play it normally.

Access Other Apps Through Fire TV Stick’s Settings

Your Fire TV Stick won’t be able to display the Home screen when disconnected from the internet. However, if your installed applications don’t need a connection, you can access them through the device’s Settings. Here is what you have to do.

  1. Turn your TV and access Fire TV Stick’s Settings.
  2. Select “Applications,” then choose “Manage Installed Applications.”
  3. Find the application you want and select “Launch Application.”

There is only one more thing you can try without a Wi-Fi connection, and that’s sharing a hotspot from your smartphone.

Set up a Hotspot

If you have cellular internet, you can use your smartphone to create a hotspot and connect the Fire Stick to the internet. Here is what you have to do to make it work:

  1. Open the “Settings” app on your smartphone and turn the Hotspot feature on.
  2. Open the Alexa app on your Fire TV Stick and select “Devices.”
  3. Select “Amazon Tap” and then choose “Change.”
  4. Find the hotspot in the available options. Select “Use this device as a Wi-Fi hotspot.”
  5. Hit “Start.”
  6. Enter the name and password of your hotspot and hit “Connect.”

Alexa will confirm when the connection is established, and you will be able to use your Fire TV Stick as usual. You should know that Amazon Tap will use your phone’s data, which could lead to an increased bill at the end of the month. Be careful about your data usage, and you will be fine. If you’re not sure about how many GB your cellular data plan includes, call your provider or visit the support site.

Set up a Stable Connection

The Fire TV Stick is designed to work with an internet connection. Without one, your options are very limited, and you won’t really be able to enjoy most of the features this little device has to offer. However, if you ever find yourself in such a situation, you can either watch movies you downloaded with Kodi or set up a hotspot with your phone. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
