How to Change the Order of Your Apps on Amazon Fire Stick

After the recent Amazon update to Fire TV, arranging the order of the apps became much more difficult. Before, you could use the arrow keys on your remote and switch the order of your apps, placing the more important ones in front, the less important, further away. However, this doesn’t mean that the feature is completely gone.

How to Change the Order of Your Apps on Amazon Fire Stick

Since the new update, there’s another method that you can use to change the order of apps on your Fire TV. This article will explain how to do so.

Pinning the Apps to the Front

If you want to arrange the order of the apps on your Fire TV or Firestick, you can only do so by pinning the apps to the front.

This essentially means that you can choose any app from your app list and put it in the first place. The pinned apps will show up first on both your Firestick home screen and the app menu.

Let’s see how you can pin your app icons:

  1. Open your Fire TV home screen.
  2. Press and hold the ‘Home’ button until the menu appears.
  3. Select the ‘Apps’ button. This will take you to the ‘Your Apps & Channels Menu’.

Alternatively, you can scroll down the home screen until you reach ‘Your Apps & Channels’ section, then scroll to the right until you reach the ‘See All’ button. Click on it and you’ll also arrive on the app menu.

  1. Highlight the app icon that you would like to move to first place (don’t select it).
  2. Click the ‘Options’ button on your remote.

  3. Select ‘Pin to Front’ from the drop-down menu.

Arranging the Apps via Pinning

Once you pin the icon to the front, it will appear as the first app on your home screen. The next time you follow this process for another app, that app will come in front of the previously pinned app. Therefore, if you pin the ‘Netflix’ app first, and then ‘Pluto TV’, the ‘Pluto TV’ app will appear first, and the ‘Netflix’ icon will stand next to it.

You have to keep this order in mind once you decide to organize your app icons. This essentially means that you have to pin the relevant apps in reverse. Pin the most important apps last, so they appear first on the screen.

Once you arrange the order in a way that suits you, you won’t be able to change the position of the individual app icons. Instead, you’ll have to do the pinning all over again. This can be frustrating if you get a new app and you want to place it somewhere in the middle, for example.

How to Rearrange the Apps Again

If you are unsatisfied with the order of your apps or you want to add recently downloaded icons closer to the top, you’ll have to unpin all apps and start ordering them from scratch.

To unpin the app icon, do the following:

  1. Follow the steps from above to enter the app library.
  2. Highlight the pinned app.

  3. Press ‘Options’ on your remote.
  4. Select the ‘Unpin’ from the drop-down menu.
    unpin

This will remove the app icon from the pinned order. If you want to return it to the front, you should just pin it back. However, it will move to the first place on your app order.

Therefore, to completely rearrange the order of the apps you’ll need to unpin all the apps first. Then, pin them in the order you’d like them to appear on the front page, starting from the last to the first. Remember to leave the most important icon last.

But What If Your Firestick Hasn’t Updated?

If somehow your Firestick remains in the previous version (it can happen), there’s a much easier method to arrange your apps.

Access the app library by following the same methods described in the previous section, and then proceed with these steps:

  1. Highlight the app that you want to move around.
  2. Press ‘Options’ on your remote.
  3. Choose ‘Move’ from the drop-down menu.
    move
  4. Use the remote’s arrow keys to move the app around the library.
  5. Hit ‘Select’ on your remote once you reach the new ideal place for the icon.

In this way, you can manually move any app icon around the screen. When you download a new app, you can place it further towards the top without the need to unpin all icons first and start the exhausting pinning process all over again.

There’s no explanation as to why this option was removed from the new update, so there’s hope it will be returned soon.

Patiently Wait for the New Update

Currently, there’s no easier way to reorder the apps on your Fire TV and/or Firestick.

In the future, there might be a new update that will return the ‘move’ option from the previous version. It’s much easier to move the apps freely around that particular screen. But until then, you can only deploy patience and organizational skills using the ‘Pin to Front’ method.

Do you think this method of organizing apps is better or worse? Do you know of any easier way to sort them? If so, please leave a comment in the section below to help other users.
