Forgot Pin Password On Samsung Galaxy S8 And Galaxy S8 Plus (Solution)

Have you forgotten the password of your Samsung Galaxy S8 or Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus? It must feel a bit ironic that you were trying to protect it against unwanted access and you ended up completely losing access to it yourself. But that’s just something temporary, of course, and you’re not alone in that camp. After you finish this article with the top three best ways to get back your smartphone access even when you have forgotten the password, you’ll know exactly what you have to do.

Factory Resetting Your Galaxy S8

You must fear that a hard factory reset will be required. We fear it is, too. But this doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing. The only downside of this action is that it will delete absolutely everything that you have previously stored on your smartphone. Granted, if you haven’t backed up your phone and you have important files on it, this can be quite a hefty downside indeed. Still, the process is often used by many users to fix a wide range of problems, so, if you think of it, it can actually do more good than harm. Especially if you’ve already been in the habit of backing up your phone. But we’ll get there in a couple of minutes or so.

In a nutshell, if you forgot the PIN password, all you have to do is to either erase everything or to temporarily change the current password–yes, you can do that, even if you don’t know the password–and change it right after that with a new one. This leaves us with the previously suggested three solutions:

  1. Perform a factory reset
  2. Change the password with Samsung Find My Mobile
  3. Change the password with the Android Device Manager

The Factory Reset Steps For A Galaxy S8 Or Galaxy S8+ Plus

  1. Turn off the phone.
  2. Boot into Recovery Mode: hold Volume Up, Home, Power all at the same time, and only release them when you’ve accessed the Recovery Mode.
  3. Initiate the Wipe Data/Factory Reset. Use Volume Down and Power keys to navigate around and confirm the action. Volume Down is how you scroll, and Power is how you select a highlighted action.
  4. When the factory reset finishes, use Volume Down and Power keys once again to access the Reboot System Now option. This will reboot the phone back into its normal running mode, sans any pictures, videos, apps, or files you previously had on it.

Note: for a more detailed guide on performing a factory reset for Galaxy S8/S8 Plus, here is a very comprehensive presentation.

The Samsung Find My Mobile Steps

  1. Make sure that your smartphone is registered with Samsung’s service.
  2. Use the Find My Mobile feature and the Remote Controls that come with it.
  3. Reset the current password with a temporary one.
  4. Unlock the screen of the phone with the temporary password.
  5. Replace the temporary password with a new one, and maybe write it down somewhere.

The Android Device Manager Steps

  1. Make sure that your phone is registered with the Android Device Manager service that will give you access to the dedicated Lock feature.
  2. Use a computer to access the Android Device Manager service from your preferred internet browser.
  3. Use your credentials to access the account and select the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus from the screen you will be redirected to.
  4. Select the Lock & Erase feature, so you can enable it and start using it right away.
  5. Follow the steps suggested after that, one by one, until you create your new, temporary password.
  6. Use the newly created password to regain access to the device and set up your new, permanent, easier-to-remember password.

Hopefully, from now on, you will no longer have to deal with this problem. And if you do, you have three different ways of changing your password. In the event that your Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8 Plus hasn’t been registered with any of the two services presented in this article–Samsung Find My Mobile or Android Device Manager–your only option, whether you like it or not, will be the hard reset.

But go ahead and try the softer versions first and only later decide if you need to erase everything from the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus.
