Galaxy S8 And Galaxy S8 Plus: How To Close Apps

Letting all kinds of apps to run in the background of Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus, though it might not obviously affect you, can affect the performances of the device and consume more battery than normally.
If you care about your smartphone and you’d like to use it at its highest performances, closing the unused apps is one of the simplest things you could do.
Now, have you ever used another Android device before this Galaxy S8? Perhaps another smartphone from Samsung, an older model? What worked back then no longer works on what you have now, yet this doesn’t mean you will have a hard time learning the new rules. You’ll just have to access the multi-tasking capacitive button, specifically designed to give you access to the apps running in the background.
This button is one of the easiest you can find on your phone – it’s a soft key, the one on the left side of your Home button and has two overlapping rectangles as a symbol. Tap on it once and you will see a new window popping up with all your recently used apps listed in there, from YouTube and Twitter to Gmail.
Suffices to tap on an app listed in there and you will instantly access it. Every time when you come back to this menu, you can switch from one app to another almost instantly.

  • If you only want to close one app, swipe your finger on its box and it will disappear – this doesn’t mean you’re losing whatever progress you had registered on that app, you’ll be able to pick up from where you’ve left the next time when you launch the app;
  • If you want to close all the apps, tap on the big button from the bottom of the screen that says CLOSE ALL.

At this point, you might be excited because you have finally learned how to control the nasty apps that kept running in the background. The temptation to access this menu and close everything frequently throughout the day is understandable, though not necessarily the most practical thing you could do.
Bear in mind that this fast menu was designed to help you control the apps that consume significant resources of your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus and that you don’t really use that often, like the Google Maps or other navigation app you’re using. If you excessively close a series of smaller apps, that normally consume fewer resources but that your phone relies on several times a day, you might actually get the opposite effect.
Assuming that you are closing the Messages app, for instance, if you text with your friends all day long, you’re not helping at all the device because it will have to launch the Messages app every time you get a new message. Long story short, you’re only getting a waste of CPU cycles and battery.
The instances when it might actually be a good idea to use the CLOSE ALL button is when you are going to sleep or you’re starting the work and you’re not planning to use the phone for a couple of hours. Otherwise, we trust you will use this feature wisely and you will rely on your better judgment when it comes to closing the apps from your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus.
