How To Get New Filters for Instagram Stories
Instagram Stories have the best filters. Those in posts are okay, those that don’t make you look like cartoony or obviously filtered or Photoshopped anyway. Stories are where its at if you like playing with filters and while the app itself has a bunch of them, you can also acquire others. I’m going to show you how to get new filters for Instagram Stories.
The Paris filter is a strong contender as it works for everyone. It smooths out blemishes, evens skin tone and works subtly to make you more photogenic. It is only available in Instagram Stories. I’m sure there are others but that’s the only one I really have any experience with…
Depending on your taste, you may really like filters or loathe them. I sit on the fence. Some filters are just dumb and I left Snapchat because all anyone does is stick bunny or kitten ears on their selfies. Fine if you’re 12, not so fine if you’re no longer a teenager. Anyway, there are some cool filters you can get from outside Instagram that you can use within the app.
New filters for Instagram
AR Camera Effects was announced way back in 2018 and have been available for brands, influencers, celebrities and select others ever since. These entities can create custom filters and share them with fans on Instagram. If you follow these creators, you can use the filters they create on your own account. There are quite a few brands still making them so it’s worth checking them out to see if you like what they make.
You can also find more if you check out each creator’s Suggestions For You list. When you follow them, select the Suggestions For You as they may also have filters. Expand the list fully by selecting the down arrow to the right of Message by their profile image.
Follow one of the following on Instagram to get new filters for your Instagram Stories. They are created in Facebook’s Spark AR Studio so will work natively in Instagram.
Johanna Jaskowska is one of the most talented filter creators on Instagram. Her page is full of some very creative ones that can add all kinds of effects. Her profile has a selection of imaginative filters that look good and add a real character to your images. Of all of the accounts I feature on here, this is the one you should definitely follow.
Kylie Cosmetics was apparently one of the first onto the filter bandwagon and has created a whole range of them for followers. I haven’t used them myself but have seen them in action on a friend’s account. They look pretty good.
adidas Originals are a sneaker brand that also got on the AR filter wagon early. Follow this account and you will have access to a number of decent filters for your Instagram Stories.
George Kedenburg was suggested as a good source of filters. He should be as he works at Instagram, apparently on Spark AR. Wherever he works, he has a collection of neat filters that offer a variety of effects and are definitely worth checking out.
If you like the particular look of Gucci, you should follow the Gucci Beauty Instagram account. It offers a range of filters all following the brand’s unique design philosophy. They are creative and show off the brand’s imagination as well as their products.
This final suggestion isn’t’ exactly an Instagram account although they have one, more a website that tracks other accounts that offer Instagram filters. This was something I didn’t know existed and was suggested by someone I know. There are tons of filters on the site for Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and others. If you’re looking for more filters, this is where to find them.
Using custom Story filters in Snapchat
So now you know a few places to get custom filters, how do you use them in an Instagram Story? You don’t actually need to do anything to access them. Once you follow an account that offers filters you should see a small notification that tells you their filter has been added to your Instagram Stories.
Create a Story as you normally would and select the filter icon in the bottom right of the window. All your filters should appear here. Default filters will appear as usual but your new filters will appear under that uploader’s profile image. Select an image, scroll through the available filters and select the one you want to use. That’s it!
If you want more filters for your Instagram Stories, you can now find them. They change all the time and there are dozens to choose from. They are much more interesting than Mickey Mouse ears that’s for sure!
