Apple iPhone 8/8+ – Wifi Not Working – What to Do

Having no wifi connection is irritating and can really disrupt your day. Some apps can’t be used at all when you don’t have an internet connection. Additionally, many users rely on online messaging instead of texts and calls.

If the wifi is down, repairing it is going to be your top priority. Here you’ll find some tried and tested ways to do it yourself.

Wifi Problems on the iPhone 8/8+

These phones both use iOS 11. While this operating system is robust, it has a few bugs and wifi connectivity problems happen fairly often.

Here are some things you can do to fix your wifi.

1. Start with the Router

Are you in range of your router? Can other devices in your vicinity establish a connection?

If possible, you should restart the router. Physically disconnect it from the modem and the power outlet and wait a few minutes before plugging it back in. It also helps to restart your router’s firmware.

Connectivity issues can also stem from your network. Contact your carrier to find out if they know about the issue.

2. Turn the Wifi Off and On

Simply switching the wifi off could be the solution. To do so, follow these steps:

Go into Settings

Select Wifi

Switch the Wifi Toggle to Off

Switch it Back On

You might have to reconnect to your chosen wifi network.

3. Forget the Network Settings

What if you can’t use the toggle because it’s grayed out?

When this happens on the iPhone 8/8+, it may indicate a hardware problem or a software issue. You can try to fix it by making your phone forget the network settings:

Go into Settings

Select Wifi

Tap on Forget This Network

This leads to a pop-up asking if you’re sure. Tap on Forget to complete the process.

After this, try to connect to your network of choice. You will have to re-enter all your wifi passwords.

4. Reset Network Settings

There could be something wrong with your wifi settings. To fix this issue, do the following:

Go into Settings

Select General

Select Reset

Select Reset Network Settings

This will remove all network-related info from your phone.

5. Disable VPN

Is your phone using a virtual private network? If so, this could be the source of your connectivity issues.

Here is how you can disable VPN:

Go into Settings

Select VPN

Switch Status to “Not Connected”

If one of your apps is using VPN, you may need to close the app to disable it. You can turn your VPN back on after your wifi comes back.

6. Force Restart Your Phone

Try turning your phone off and then back on. If this doesn’t restore your wifi, you can try a force restart. To force restart your phone follow these steps:

Press and Release the Volume Up Button

Press and Release the Volume Down Button

Press and Hold the Side Button

If the forced reset doesn’t work, you may need to do a factory reset. However, keep in mind that this will delete all your data. Backups are also more difficult when the wifi is down, so avoid doing a factory reset until you’re completely sure that you have to do it.
