The Galaxy Note 8 runs on a 3300mAh battery. This is a clear limitation but it was a choice made with user safety in mind, as the Note 7 phones had well-known overheating issues.

After a full day’s use, the Note 8’s battery may drop well under 50%. This means that fast charging is more important than ever for its users. With its Samsung charger, the Note 8 needs only an hour and a half to charge completely.

However, any phone can have slow charging issues, and the Galaxy Note 8 is no exception. Let’s look at some of the potential reasons why your phone doesn’t charge fast enough to meet your standards, as well as what you can do about it.

1. Adapter Quality

There are plenty of people who use third-party chargers, but that means that charging will take longer. So if your original charger got lost, it’s best to get a replacement from Samsung.

You may also want to inspect your charging equipment for physical damage. If the cable or the prongs are slightly damaged, the charging process can slow down considerably.

2. Use Safe Mode

It could be that your phone is too loaded with apps that are interfering with the charging process. A neat trick you can use is to charge your phone in Safe Mode in order to speed things up.

Turn off your phone
Hold the Power button
Release the button when the Samsung logo appears
Press and hold the Volume down button
Wait for the device to reset
Release the Volume Down button when you see the Safe Mode tag on the bottom left corner of the screen
Turn off the display
Plug the charger in and wait

This should speed up the process, as it switches off all your installed apps. To exit safe mode, follow the next steps:

Hold Power button to open the menu
Tap Restart

3. Clean Charging Port

Dust particles and debris often get stuck in the phone’s charging port. This is a common cause for a slow charging time, and the solution is simple. Take a cotton swab or a can of compressed air to clean the port without damaging it.

4. Enable the Fast Charging Option

The Galaxy Note 8 has two Fast Charging options, one for cable adaptors and one for wireless chargers. Make sure you select the appropriate one for your equipment.

Access Settings menu
Select Battery options to expand
Scroll down until you see the two charging options
Select the desired Fast Charging option to enable it

Now start charging the phone again and see if there’s any improvement. These options may not be enabled by default.

A Final Thought

Most of the time, it’s the multitude of apps running in the background that slow things down. When you charge your phone in Safe Mode, these apps won’t interfere anymore. But switching to Safe Mode every time is inconvenient, so you may need to perform a factory wipe or remove the apps that are causing trouble.
