Galaxy S8/S8+ – Forgot PIN Password – What to Do?

The easiest way to unlock your Galaxy S8 or S8+ is by using the fingerprint scanner, but if it’s not working for some reason, such as if it’s wet, you’re going to need your PIN password or lock pattern.

Galaxy S8/S8+ - Forgot PIN Password - What to Do?

If you haven’t had to input your PIN in a while, you might have forgotten or temporarily not able to recall it. So you’ll be locked out of your phone. But don’t worry – there are ways to bypass the PIN and regain control of your phone.

Perform a Hard Reset

Hopefully, you have a previous backup file that you can use to restore your phone after the hard reset, which removes all data from your phone.

1. Turn Off Your Galaxy

Hold down the Power button and hit the Power Off option on the screen. Your phone will turn off.

2. Access Recovery Mode

With the phone off, press the Volume Up, Bixby, and Power buttons simultaneously. Keep holding until you see the Android recovery logo.

3. Select Wipe Data/ Factory Reset

Navigate down to Wipe Data/ Factory Reset using the volume rockers and press Power to confirm.

4. Choose Yes

The following screen asks you to confirm your choice, select Yes to initiate hard reset.

5. Select Reboot System Now

Choose Reboot System Now when it’s done. Your Galaxy S8 or S8+ is now back to the factory settings and you can restore it from the backup files.

Use Find My Mobile Feature

If your Galaxy S8 or S8+ is registered to a Samsung account, there is no need to perform a hard reset and risk losing your data. Assuming you’ve enabled the Find My Mobile feature on your phone, here’s what you need to do:

1. Log into Your Account

Go to findmymobile.samsung.com and sign in with your Samsung ID and password.

2. Select Find

Tap/click on Find.

3. Choose More

Swipe down to Unlock My Device at the bottom of the menu and select it.

4. Type the Samsung Account Password

When you enter the password, hit the Unlock button at the top of the menu. A green Unlock icon will appear on the screen after you’ve unlocked the phone. This action removes the PIN password from your Galaxy S8/S8+.

Set a new PIN by following this path:

Settings > Lock Screen and Security > Screen Lock Type > Password/PIN

Put in the new password and verify by reentering the PIN. Once you are done, tap on OK to confirm. But this time make sure to choose a password that you can remember.

The Last Lock

There are a couple of takeaways here. First, make sure to perform regular backups – you never know when you’ll need it. Second, registering your Galaxy S8/S8+ is quite helpful so don’t forget to do it as soon as you get a new phone.

With these simple actions, you don’t need to worry since it’s easy to bypass your PIN and keep your data intact.
