Google Pixel 2/2XL – How to Clear Chrome and App Cache
There is no excuse to let your Google Pixel 2/2XL slow down due to piled up temporary files. Clearing the app cache takes just a few minutes and helps your smartphone run smoother.
Getting rid of the Chrome cache is even easier. We’ve selected a few tried-and-tested methods to remove all cached items from your Google Pixel 2/2XL. Feel free to check them out below.
Clear Chrome Cache
Dealing with Chrome cache is plain sailing. You should do it every now and again to prevent the browser from running slow.
1. Access Chrome
Tap on the Chrome app to launch it, then select the Menu icon. It is usually represented by three dots at the top-right, but the position might be different with some Chrome versions.
2. Select Settings
Under Settings, swipe to Privacy and tap to access more actions.
3. Hit Clear Browsing Data
After you select Clear Browsing Data, choose the type of data that you want to remove. Chrome allows you to select cached passwords, images, browsing history, etc.
You may want to keep the passwords, but make sure that all the other options are checked. Now, tap Clear Data and you’re done.
Tip: The Advanced option under the Clear Browsing Data menu allows you to pick the cache timeframe.
Clear App Cache
Removing the piled up app cache files takes some load off your phone and should help it run faster. It can also prevent freezes or crashes. The method is also quite easy, but you need to repeat the process for every app on your Google Pixel 2/2XL. Here’s how to do it:
1. Access the Settings App
Touch and then swipe your Home screen to show the apps and then tap on Settings.
2. Go to Apps & Notifications
Select See All (number) Apps under the Apps & Notification menu and choose an app you want to clear.
3. Hit Storage
Tap on Storage in the app window, then select Clear Cache and you’re done.
Note: There is a possibility that you won’t be able to clear the cache for all the apps. Usually, some native and system apps don’t feature the option.
Do a Soft Reset
A soft reset means restarting your phone. This method is quick and some users prefer to go for it first. Besides clearing some cache, a simple restart also fixes bugs and glitches that might be slowing down your Google Pixel 2/2XL.
1. Press Power and Volume Down
Press the buttons for about 10 seconds (don’t be surprised if you take a screenshot because it’s the same combination) and release them as soon as the screen goes black.
2. Feel the Vibration
After your smartphone vibrates, it restarts and boots up with less cache than before.
There are quite a few third-party apps which should allow you to remove the entire app cache at once. They can be quite helpful, but you need to choose them very carefully as some of them might be a source of malware.
If you have successfully used one of these apps on your Google Pixel 2/2XL, share it with the TechJunkie community in the comments section.
