How To Backup the Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge

Backing up your Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge may not be in the forefront of your mind. But should the worse happen, you’ll be glad you did it. Follow these easy steps to back up your valuable data and remember to do it regularly to update new information.

Backup via Samsung Account

If you have a Samsung device, you may already have a Samsung account for it. If you do, backing up your information is easy. Simply follow the steps below.

Step 1 – Access Your Backup Settings

First, from your Home screen navigate to your Apps icon. You will see it on the bottom of your screen. From there, tap on the Settings icon.

Within the Settings menu, scroll down to the Personalization section and select Accounts from the options list. Next, you will see a list of all the accounts associated with your phone. Go down the list and tap on Samsung account.

At this point, you do need a Samsung account. If you don’t have one, follow the prompts to create it.

Step 2 – Back Up Data

From the Samsung account tab, tap on your email in account details. Tap on Auto Backup to bring up another menu. Use the individual sliders to sync different areas of your phone individually. They may include sync options for:

  • calendar
  • contacts
  • internet
  • keyboard data
  • memo

Backup via Google Account

If you would rather back up to your Google account, syncing your data is just as easy.

Step 1 – Access Your Backup Settings

First, go to your backup settings by accessing your Settings menu first. Scroll down to Personalization and tap on Accounts. Choose Google from your account options.

Next, tap on your email account to access backup options.

Step 2 – Back Up Data

Your available backup options may include:

  • app data
  • calendar
  • Chrome
  • contacts
  • Drive
  • Gmail

Check the different data category boxes that you want Google to sync from your Galaxy S6/S6 Edge. Tap on the three horizontal dots in the upper right-hand corner of your screen when you are done.

Lastly, select “Sync now” to back up your selections.

Backup via Smart Switch for PC or Mac

Would you rather back up your information onto your desktop? If so, download the Smart Switch app from the Samsung website or Play Store and follow the steps below.

Step 1 – Download, Install, and Connect

First, make sure to download and install the Smart Switch app from Samsung. After it’s installed, it’s time to connect your Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge to your computer using a USB cable.

Step 2 – Back Up

Next, from the Smart Switch screen, you will see More in the upper right-hand corner. Click on the More button and select Preferences. Go to the Backup Items tab and choose the content you want to back up. When you are done, click on OK.

On the Smart Switch screen, select the Backup button to perform the action. Wait for your data to back up and then click Confirm once it is completed.

Backup via Samsung Cloud

If you have Samsung Cloud services, backing up your data is as easy as a tap of a button. Check out these steps below to back up your information to this cloud server.

Step 1 – Access Samsung Cloud

Access the Samsung Cloud by going to Settings from your app page. Scroll down the list until you see “Cloud and Accounts” and tap on this option. Next, tap on Samsung Cloud.

Step 2 – Back Up Data to Cloud

In your Samsung Cloud menu, select Backup to view your available options. You can choose to either back up data automatically or Backup Now to perform the action immediately.

If you have multiple devices, you may want to perform a sync first before backing up your data.
