iPhone 7/7+ – How to Block Text Messages
Blocking text messages can be helpful in many different ways. It allows you to get out of the annoying group messages and avoid spammers that fill up your inbox with irritating promotions. On top of that, this is a useful method to discourage harassers or secret admirers.
Luckily, you can easily block any of the unwanted messages on your iPhone 7/7+. There are a few methods to ensure you no longer receive text messages from a particularly annoying contact.
How to Block Text Messages from App
One of the easiest ways to deal with irritating text messages is to block them via the Messages app on your iPhone. You should take the following steps:
1. Launch the Messages App
Tap on the Messages app to enter all your conversations. Then swipe to find the one you want to block and tap to open it.
2. Select the “i” Icon
There is a small round “i” icon in the upper right-hand corner of the conversation window. You should tap on this icon to access more information and actions associated with this contact.
3. Tap on the Sender’s Number
This opens up a menu that features different actions associated with this particular sender.
4. Select Block This Caller
You should tap on Block this Caller to stop receiving text messages from that particular contact.
5. Confirm Your Choice
When you tap on Block This Caller, a pop-up window will appear asking you to confirm your choice. Choose Block Contact in the pop-up window and you will no longer receive any text messages from that particular number.
How to Block Text Messages from the Settings App
You can also use the Settings app to block unwanted text messages. Here’s how to do it:
1. Launch the Settings App
Once you are inside the app, swipe until you reach Messages and then tap to open it.
2. Select Blocked
Swipe down the Messages menu until you reach Blocked. Tap on Blocked to enter the settings.
3. Tap Add New
When you tap Add New, your list of contacts will pop up and you can select the one you want to block by simply tapping on it. You can also block messages from groups in this menu, but you have to add individual contacts one by one.
How to Filter Unwanted Messages
The software that comes with your iPhone 7/7+ also allows you to filter the messages you receive from unknown senders. You should do the following to activate this filter:
1. Open the Settings App
Swipe up until your reach Messages and tap to enter.
2. Select Filter Unknown Senders
When you toggle the switch next to the Filter Unknown Senders on, it will disable iMessage notifications from all unknown senders. The messages you receive from unknown senders will be located in a separate folder.
How to Unblock Senders
If you block text messages from the conversation inside the Messaging app, you can easily unblock it.
Do the following:
Open Messages > Select Conversation > Tap the “i” Icon > Select Contact Number
When you get to the Contact Number menu, just tap on Unblock This Caller and you’re done.
