iPhone XS – How to Change Language

One day you might wake up only to realize that the software on your iPhone XS is in Arabic. Your bed or pocket or handbag might have thought it was a friendly or funny prank, but it wouldn’t be nearly as amusing to you.

iPhone XS - How to Change Language

On the bright side, the iPhone XS has a bulletproof UI which allows you to easily navigate to the Language settings and go back to US English or any other language of your preference.

This article walks you through the iPhone XS language settings one step at a time with some sprinkling of tips and tricks.

A Piece of Advice: Don’t ask Siri to change the language for you since she doesn’t have the permission to do it.

Changing iPhone XS Language

At any given point, you are only a few steps away from changing the language settings on your iPhone XS. This is how to do it:

1. Go to Settings

Tap on the Settings app (the “gear” icon) on your Home screen and select the General option (another “gear” icon).

2. Swipe to Language & Region

Access the Language & Region menu and hit iPhone Language.

Trick: The Language & Region menu is two tabs above iTunes Wi-Fi Sync. Since iTunes and Wi-Fi are universal words, use them as an anchor and you can easily find the L&R menu even if your phone is in Chinese.

3. Choose a Preferred Language

Swipe up and down the iPhone Language list and find the one you prefer, then tap on the language to select it. Alternately, you can use the Search bar and type in the language.

4. Confirm Your Choice

A pop-up window appears asking you to confirm the switch. Just tap on Confirm and you are good to go. In a few seconds, your iPhone XS will switch to the preferred language.

Other Language Options You Should Know About

Besides the system language, there are a few other options to customize languages on your iPhone XS. Let’s take a closer look at some of them:

Preferred Language Order

This tab is located under Language & Region and it lets you select a few preferred languages. The first one is by default English US and the second one depends on your region. But you can easily add more by tapping on Add Language.

Change Keyboard Language

If you decide to switch to another language, you may also want a matching keyboard. Check out how to add more keyboards:

1. Launch Settings

Once inside the Settings menu, select General and tap on Keyboard.

2. Select Keyboards

Go to Keyboards at the top of the menu and choose Add New Keyboard.

3. Choose the Keyboard Type

The following menu allows you to choose between QUERTY, QUERTZ and AZERTY keyboards. Tap on the preferred option and hit done to confirm.

Change Siri Language

The growing number of bilingual people in the US will greatly appreciate the fact that Siri speaks Spanish, among many other languages. You can also switch her to French if you desire an added touch of romance. Just take the following steps:

Settings > Siri & Search > Language > Tap Preferred Language

El Fin

iPhones are present almost anywhere in the world. And the list of available languages seems limitless. It is easy to switch between them – which can be handy especially if you are actively learning a new language.

But as mentioned in the introduction, the language change may just well be accidental or the subject of a prank. We’d love to hear your experience with different languages on iPhone XS, so don’t hesitate to comment below.
