How To Take a Screenshot on the iPhone XS Max
Taking screenshots is not reserved for the underhanded users of Snapchat or for exchanging funny pics of fake Tinder profiles with friends. Sometimes, a screenshot can help smartphone users solve a problem or share some important info.
Since the introduction of the iPhone, taking a screenshot has been pretty much the same. However, after the removal of the Home button, things have changed a bit and now work similar to Android phones. Let’s take a look at how to take and edit a screenshot with the iPhone XS Max.
First, you should make sure that the screen of your phone is displaying everything you want to capture with the screenshot. For example, if the right portion of the map is showing or the right portion of the chat is on the screen.
Next, you should simultaneously press the Power button (located on the right side of the phone) and the Volume Up button (located on the left side). The screen of your phone will flash and you’ll hear the classic shutter sound, notifying you that the screenshot’s been taken. A thumbnail showing the screenshot will appear in the bottom-left corner.
The second method takes a bit more preparation but makes up for it with simpler execution. It uses the Assistive Touch application which enables you to take one-handed screenshots. First, you should enable the app. Here is how it works:
- Tap on the “Settings” app on the Home screen of your phone.
- Then, access the “General” section and tap the “Accessibility” tab.
- Finally, tap the “Assistive Touch” tab and toggle it “On”.
Next, you should set screenshot as the app’s function. Follow these steps:
- In the “Accessibility” menu, tap the “Customize Top Level” option below “Assistive Touch”.
- Tap the star-shaped “Custom” icon.
- Pick “Screenshot” from the menu.
- Tap “Done”.
To take a screenshot, tap the Assistive Touch button and then pick the “Screenshot” option from the menu. Like with the first method, a preview thumbnail will appear at the bottom of the screen. The screen will flash and you’ll hear the shutter sound, as well.
View the Screenshot
Once the screenshot is taken and the preview thumbnail appears, you can access the screenshot by tapping the thumbnail. Swiping the thumbnail will delete the screenshot.
If you decide to open and edit the screenshot at a later point, open the “Photos” app from the Home screen of your phone. Tap the “Screenshots” folder to open it, navigate to the screenshot that you want to access, and tap on it.
Edit the Screenshot
iOS 12 devices, including the iPhone XS Max, offer some neat options for editing screenshots. Aside from cropping (very useful if you only need a certain part of the screenshot), the editing arsenal at your disposal includes marker, pen, lasso tool, pencil, rubber, and a color palette.
To access the additional tools, tap the “+” button in the lower-right corner. The extras include Signature, Text, Magnifier tool, and a range of geometric shapes like squares, rectangles, and circles.
With the tools at your disposal, you can shape, resize, and alter your screenshots, as well as write down funny notes and instructions.
Though it changed a bit with the introduction of the iPhone X, taking a screenshot with an iPhone XS Max is still a breeze. Additionally, iOS 12 gives you a ton of handy editing options which you can use to personalize your screenshots.
