Despite its amazing versatility and the countless features it provides, the ability to receive calls is still one of the most fundamental functions of your Pixel 2/2 XL. This will continue to be the case with any smartphone, no matter how advanced they may get. Therefore, if you are having trouble in this regard, this means two things for you – one good and one bad.

First up, the good thing is that it’s unlikely you did something to break it as far as software is concerned. It’s a basic function and doesn’t require much input from you. You insert the SIM card and you’re good to go. This means that if you can’t receive calls, the cause is usually external.

On the other hand, the bad news is this means there isn’t a whole lot you can do on your own to remedy the situation. We’ll provide certain tips, but your options are somewhat limited.

If you can’t receive calls on your Pixel 2/2 XL, keep the following in mind:

Airplane mode means, among other things, absolutely no calls. This is there to prevent your phone from interfering with any sensitive electrical systems but without shutting it off completely. While your phone will still retain certain functions, this could be the cause of our problem so you should make sure that you didn’t turn it on by accident. To do this, expand the notification bar by sliding it down from the top of the screen. Now, just take a look at the icon.

The option to always forward calls can be the source of your problem if it is turned on. Press the phone icon on your home screen. Tap the menu icon in the top right corner. Then, select “Settings”.

Now, tap the following items: “Calls” > “Call forwarding” > “Always forward”. Finally, turn this feature off.

You can try resetting your phone, this actually helps clear up quite a few issues.
There could be a problem with network coverage. Perhaps there is a major outage in the area or you could be in a spot with really bad reception. See if you can receive calls when you are at a completely different location. Also, check if other people who have the same mobile carrier can receive calls when they’re at the same spot as you.
Your SIM card might be malfunctioning. To be sure, insert it into a different phone. If the problem disappears, it means there is definitely something wrong with your device. We know this is not what you want to hear, but at least you’ll know for sure. On the other hand, if the problem does turn out to be with the SIM card, simply reach out to your mobile carrier and they will provide a replacement.
