Samsung Galaxy J5/J5 Prime – How to Factory Reset
If your phone becomes so slow that you’re spending more time waiting for it to unfreeze than actually using it, it might be time to perform a factory reset. Also known as a hard reset, this is an irreversible process that will wipe out all the data from your smartphone. So if you’re planning on factory resetting your Samsung Galaxy J5 or J5 Prime, you should back up your information first.
In this article, we’ll discuss the two standard ways to reset your smartphone to factory settings.
Factory Reset from the Settings Menu
Perhaps the easiest way to hard reset your Galaxy J5 or J5 Prime is to do it from the Settings menu. All you need to do is to follow these steps:
Step 1 – Remove Your Google Account
When you enter the Settings menu, you will see a list of all the accounts you are currently logged in. Even though the factory reset will wipe all your data, it is important to log out of your default Google account and delete your login data from the phone. That’s because your phone has the so-called Factory Reset Protection feature enabled.
If you fail to delete your personal data, your phone will only accept log in details from the account you were using before the reset. This, in turn, will make it difficult to sell your phone or give it to a relative, as the new owner will need to have access to your Google account to use it. So before you proceed with the factory reset, make sure to remove all your Google accounts.
Step 2 – Go to the Back-Up and Reset Menu
Once inside the Settings menu, tap on Back Up and Reset in the Personal category. On the next page, you will have to tap on Factory Data Reset. You will then see a new screen informing you that all your data will be permanently lost if you decide to proceed with the factory reset. All you need to do now is to tap on the Reset Device button on the bottom of the screen.
Because this process is irreversible, you will once again have to confirm that you want to factory reset your phone. If you’re sure, tap on Delete All to finalize the process.
Factory Reset via the System Recovery Menu
You can also factory reset your J5 or J5 Prime via the System Recovery menu. Here’s what you need to do:
Step 1 – Load the System Recovery Menu
You will first need to turn off your Samsung Galaxy J5/J5 Prime. After that, press the Volume Up, Volume Down, and Power buttons at the same time. Hold them pressed until the Samsung Galaxy J5 logo appears on the screen.
Step 2 – Navigate the Boot Menu
After a few seconds, your phone’s boot menu will appear. Use the Volume Down button to move down to the Wipe Data/Factory Reset option. Once you get there, press the Power button to confirm your selection.
Step 3 – Confirm Factory Reset
This will open up a new screen, where you’ll have to navigate down to “Yes, Delete All User Data” and confirm your choice by pressing the Power button. On the next screen, select “Reboot System Now” and once again press Power to confirm. As soon as you do that, the factory reset process will start.
It will take a few minutes to complete, after which you’ll see the message “Data Wipe Complete” displayed on the screen. To turn on your phone, simply press the Power button.
The Final Word
Factory reset is a great way to fix system issues and give your Galaxy J5 or J5 Prime a new lease on life. Remember, there is no way to reverse this process, so make sure to back up your login info, personal data, and media files before performing a factory reset.
