Unwanted text messages and spam can cause a lot of frustration. They clog your inbox and disrupt your activities with constant notifications. Luckily, there are a few ways to block unwanted text messages on your Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge.

Block Text Messages with Samsung Messaging

The exact steps may vary depending on your Android version. Below are the steps for both Lollipop 5.0 and Marshmallow 6.0.

Via Spam Message Using Lollipop Android OS

Step 1 – Access Messages

First, tap on the Messages icon from the Home screen. Scroll to the spam or unwanted message that you want to block. Select and hold the conversation thread.

Step 2 – Block Message

To block the message, tap “add to spam numbers”. If you decide you want to unblock these messages later, simply follow Step 1 and then tap “remove from spam”.

To block a message on a Marshmallow powered-device, first access Messages from your Home screen. When you see your messages, scroll until you reach the spam message. Touch and hold the message thread until another screen opens up.

Step 2 – Block Message

In your expanded message thread, go to More in the upper right corner. From your options, choose Block number and be sure to toggle the Message Block switch to On.

In Settings, select the Spam Filter check box. Next, tap on “Manage spam numbers”. Add the sender’s phone number and then tap on the plus sign. Lastly, tap the back arrow to confirm.

Step 1 – Access Messages Settings

If you want to block text messages with a Marshmallow Android OS, first start from the Home screen. Tap on the Messages icon to open this menu. Next, tap on More in the upper right corner of your screen and choose Settings.

Step 2 – Block Messages

From the message Settings menu, select the Block Messages check box. Next, tap Block List and enter the unwanted sender’s phone number. Confirm this block by tapping on the plus sign and then the back arrow.

Furthermore, you can add phone numbers manually or add spam numbers using your inbox or contacts.

Block Text Messages with a Third-Party App

If you feel that you need more text message blocking powers, you can always download a third-party app. These apps may block numbers and contacts from calling or texting your Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge more effectively than your native features do.

They all function a little differently, however, so it may take a lot of trial and error to find the right one for you.

Final Thought

You don’t have to sit quietly while spam fills your message inbox. Take charge of your smartphone and block unwanted messages by using simple commands to access your Samsung S6/S6 Edge’s native features. And if that’s not enough, head over to the Play Store and try a third-party app, too. Peace of mind may be just a tap or two away.
