Xiaomi Redmi 5A – How to Change Language
So you got a new phone. And you are excited to use it. But it isn’t in your native language. What do you do?
Fortunately, changing your Redmi 5A device language is easy. As long as it supports the language of your choice, you can switch it out in a few taps.
So follow these easy steps to get the language of your choice on your device. And check out how to change language on your apps, too.
Redmi 5A Language Changes
If you want to change your language on your Xiaomi phone to something other than Chinese, it needs to be a Global version. If your phone is not a Global version, the Chinese ROM will not support a language change.
Assuming you do have a Global Xiaomi phone, follow the steps below:
Step 1 – Open Settings Menu
From your Home screen or Notifications, tap on the Settings icon. In the next menu, scroll down until you get to Additional Settings. And tap this option.
Step 2 – Go to Languages & Input
In the next menu, go to Languages & Input. It should be near the top of the screen.
Step 3 – Change Language
Tap the Languages option. It should be near the top of the screen as well. The next menu will be a list of all available languages for your device.
Scroll down to the appropriate one and tap on your selection.
Changing your ROM language should affect all of the apps on your device. However, you may have some cases where the language didn’t change. In those instances, you may need to go into individual app settings to change the language options.
Changing Language on MI Browser
In case your language change didn’t translate to your MI browser, changing the language is easy. Simply scroll down to the little globe icon near the tab headings and tap it. Tap your preferred language to change the browser language.
Flashing Device for Multi-Language Use
As mentioned before, if you have a Chinese ROM your device won’t support other languages. You can change this by flashing your Redmi 5A with a Global version of the device’s ROM.
However, this technique is not for beginners. So if you feel uncomfortable doing this, you may want to get some help rather than doing it yourself.
If you know exactly what flashing another ROM entails, though, simply download a Global version of the ROM for your device here. There are a couple of ways to change your system:
Fastboot and the MI Flashing Tool may be the easiest way to get your phone to a Global version. But you need to unlock your phone first to do it.
Once you have a Global version of the Redmi 5A ROM, follow the steps above to select the language of your choice.
Changing the language preference on your Redmi 5A is as easy as a few taps. But remember that you have to have a Global version device to do it. The standard Xiaomi ROM is in Chinese and doesn’t support multi-language changes.
So check your specs before you buy. Or you can see it on the device by going to the Settings menu and tapping on About Phone.
