Xiaomi Redmi 5A – Sound Not Working – What to Do
It can be frustrating if your phone doesn’t make a sound. Putting it on silent is one thing, but not hearing audio from your favorite app can be a pain.
You may have sound difficulties for a variety of reasons. So, here are a few troubleshooting tips to get your Xiaomi Redmi 5A working the way it’s supposed to.

4 Troubleshooting Tips
If you are having trouble with sound on your Redmi 5A, check out the tips below:
Tip #1 – Volume Controls and Settings
If the sound isn’t working, the first thing you may do is check your volume controls. Sounds obvious, right? But sometimes the simplest fixes are the ones that work.
Step 1 – Check Volume
First, use the Volume Up and Volume Down keys to see where your volume is set at.
Step 2 – Check Airplane Mode Settings
Next, check to make sure you didn’t accidentally enable Airplane Mode.
Airplane mode doesn’t affect sound on your device per se. But it does cut off internet and Bluetooth access. So if your streaming video loses sound or your Bluetooth headphones disconnect, this may be a reason why.
Step 3 – Check Silent/DND Settings
Lastly, make sure you didn’t leave your phone on Silent or Do Not Disturb (DND). Go into the Settings menu for your device and tap on Sounds and Vibrations. Select Silent/DND to see the submenu.
Make sure that your DND setting is switched off. You may also want to check your other sound settings to make sure that they aren’t affecting your sound problem.
Tip #2 – System Updates
If sound problems persist, you may need to update your system. To do so, go into your Settings menu again and tap on System Updates. If your device is up-to-date, the message on the screen will let you know.
Tip #3 – Reboot
Sometimes your phone simply needs a reboot to get things working again. One of the easiest ways to do it is long pressing the Power button. When the menu options pop up, tap on Reboot to perform a reboot of your device.
Tip #4 – Factory Reset
Doing a factory reset may be the last thing you want to do. But it works wonders for many different device problems. Just make sure to back up your data first. Unlike a reboot, all your data will be erased from your phone if you do this.
Step 1 – Access Recovery Menu
First, power off your phone. When your device is off, press the Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously. Keep pressing the buttons until you see the MI logo on your device screen.
Step 2 – Recovery Main Menu
When you see the Main Menu, scroll down with your volume button until you get to “Wipe Data.” Press the Power button to select that option.
You’ll be asked to confirm the data wipe. This is the point of no return, so make sure you already backed up your data. Otherwise, it may be lost forever.
When you’re sure, confirm the action and wait for the wipe. Your phone will let you know when it’s done and whether or not it was successful.
Step 3 – Reboot
Finally, go back to the Main Menu options and select Reboot. The reboot process may take a while, but you’ll know when it’s done when you see the Set-Up screen.
If you’ve tried all the troubleshooting tips and still have problems with sound, it may be time for drastic measures. It may be a hardware issue which means a trip to your local MI Service Center.
