Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 - How to Block Text Messages

Block Text Messages via the Security App

Adding contacts and numbers to your Blocklist via the Security app is one of the easiest ways to add multiple blocks to your list at the same time.

Step 1 – Access the Security App

First, from your Home screen, tap on the Security app. It has its own icon symbolized by a little shield with a lightning bolt through the middle.

Step 2 – Access Blocklist

From the Security app menu, tap on Blocklist. Depending on your MIUI OS version, you may have to scroll down to find it.

Step 3 – Add to Blocklist

Finally, it’s time to add to your Blocklist. First, make sure that the SMS tab is highlighted. If you already have numbers and contacts on your Blocklist, you will see them listed here.

To add more contacts or numbers, tap on the gear icon to open the Settings menu. In the next menu, tap on “Blocked numbers” under the Manage Blocklist category. Now tap on the “+Add” button near the bottom of the screen.

You will see options to add to the list with a phone number, prefix, or contacts. You do need to know the specific information before adding to your Blocklist this way. Furthermore, you can’t add from your Call Log or Message Log from here.

When you are done entering the required information, tap on OK to confirm the addition.

If you would rather add to your block list directly from your messaging app, try the method below.

Block Text Message via Messages App

Blocking messages directly from your Messages app is one of the easiest ways to add to your Blocklist.

Step 2 – Block Message Contact

Next, find and tap on the message thread from the contact you wish to block. When you see the entire thread, tap on the Contact icon in the upper right corner.

Whether or not the contact is saved, you will see the option to Block it near the bottom of the entry. Tap on this option and confirm the action.

Block Text Messages via the Keywords List

Did you know that you can also block messages that have certain keywords? To add to your keyword list, go to the Settings menu under the Blocklist feature. Tap on “SMS blocklist” to see the next sub-menu. Select “Keyword blocklist” and then the “Add+” button.

Other Blocklist Key Features

The SMS Blocklist settings menu also has additional features that allow you to block messages from strangers as well as from people on your Contacts list.

You can also add keywords to your Exceptions List. This list allows text messages that contain these specific words to go through regardless of whether the contact is blocked or not.
