What Is the Hinge Daily Likes Limit?

In the sea of dating apps out there, Hinge definitely stands out. At its very core, Hinge is an app used to facilitate connections. This is clear from Hinge’s tagline that claims “Hinge is designed to be deleted”. The bottom line with Hinge is using the old-school way of being introduced to a potential significant other through mutual friends. The app, however, doesn’t use the “swipe” method like the majority of dating apps. The essence here are “likes”, if limits do exist.

What Is It?

Before dating apps, social media and instant messaging became popular, people didn’t meet their matches online. Some people would find their significant others at parties, social gatherings, and concerts, while others were introduced to their matches through mutual friends. This is exactly the essence of Hinge – bringing the old school mutual friends connection to the online world of dating apps.

As mentioned, Hinge is a dating app that relies on the idea of meeting a match through mutual friends. Of course, what better social media platform is there to use than Facebook? Once the app connects to your Facebook (it will require permission), it works by connecting you with the Facebook profiles of your friends’ friends. The whole idea sparked from Facebook’s mutual friends view option.

But how does Hinge work, exactly?

How Does It Work?

First of all, is Hinge free? Well, in this respect, Hinge is fairly similar to other dating apps. The majority of dating apps come with completely free basic versions, and the same goes for Hinge. The free version allows a certain number of actions that can be boosted with the paid version.

However, what sets Hinge apart from its peers is the lack of your typical dating app “swiping”. Instead of swiping off someone you’re not interested in and swiping in somebody you like, Hinge relies on “likes”.

So, how do the “likes” work? Well, essentially, you’re presented with other users’ profiles that are called “stories” on Hinge. You scroll through a user’s story and are granted the opportunity to both like and comment on their photo or to some of their profile answers (users are asked certain questions when creating their profile). As soon as you’ve liked something on someone else’s story, they will be notified and will have an option to respond. It works the same vice-versa.

So, “Likes” Are Free?

Well, not exactly. With the basic, free version of Hinge, you get to like as many as ten stories per day. This may not seem like a lot, but it’s usually sufficient, at least for the majority of Hinge users. However, there is a condition, even for liking ten users per day, and there is a good reason for it. In order to be able to perform “likes” at all, your profile needs to be completed. A profile is considered completed on Hinge when there are no less than six photos on it.

So, what’s the big idea with this completed profile condition? The general idea around Hinge is being a “relationship app”, rather than your mere “dating app” in a sea of other dating apps. To achieve this, Hinge pushes you into making a more transparent and well-rounded profile – one that will tear down all the barriers of awkwardness and uncertainty before engaging with a potential match.

Paid Version

So, what’s the daily “likes” limit on Hinge? With the basic profile, it’s ten per day. If you opt for the “Preferred Membership”, which is essentially a paid subscription, you are granted an unlimited number of “likes”.

Pre-Match

The unlimited number of “likes” may sound like a solid incentive, but, in truth, people can deal with ten “likes” per day – there are, after all, a whole bunch of other dating and social media apps to spend your time on. However, the main selling point when it comes to the Preferred Membership on Hinge is that you’ll get to see everybody who has liked you before being matched with them.

What does this mean? Essentially, you won’t have to go blindly into communicating with a potential match. You’ll already know that the person is interested in you, at least based on your Hinge story. This is the main reason why many people opt for Preferred Membership. Of course, an unlimited number of “likes” is a great bonus, too.

Dating Coaches

Another thing you get with the Preferred Membership is access to Hinge Experts who are pretty much dating coaches. This means contact with real-life people who will help you set up a better Hinge story by advising you which photos to use and how to answer the prompted questions on your profile. They can also help you in terms of conversation starters, which usually tend to be awkward.

That being said, Hinge Experts won’t be able to tell you what to do and how to behave with your potential match, once you leave Hinge and go into the real world for your first date. This is the exact point of Hinge, though – going old-school and taking online dating outside, into the real world.

More Information

Every hinge story (profile) comes with set information that can be found on a profile. It can help you determine how much of a match you would be with the person whose story you’re looking at. This information includes age, gender, height, location, religion, and ethnicity. With the Preferred Membership, however, you get to use and see other filters that range from politics and children to smoking, drug use, and many others.

Hinge and Dating

As mentioned, Hinge is more than a dating app – it’s a matchmaking relationship app. As such, the very essence behind it is outlined in “likes” rather than “swipes” – a much deeper and more meaningful way of connecting with someone romantically.
