How To Create a Boomerang on Snapchat

One of the reasons Snapchat has been able to maintain its popularity over the years in the face of extreme competition from platforms like Instagram is that the company has consistently added new, fun features to its platform. Features like Stories, the Snap Map, and more have given Snapchat some serious staying power.

How To Create a Boomerang on Snapchat

Another popular feature that has been introduced to Snapchat is Bounce, a cool feature that was announced a couple of years ago but didn’t actually launch until August of 2018.

So what is Bounce? How can you use Bounce to create fun Snaps to share with your friends?

Let’s take a look at what Bounce is and how you can use it to create a Boomerang on Snapchat.

What is Bounce on Snapchat?

Snapchat is such a feature-rich platform that those who are new to the platform may struggle to get the full benefits available. Snapchat’s “Bounce” feature essentially lets users select one portion of a video to replay.

Combined with the loop option, as you’re watching a video a specific portion will play again. It’s sort of like a boomerang within another video. For example, let’s say you and your friends and skateboarding and one friend does something amazing, you can play the video as you normally would but loop that one action within the video.

Overall, it’s a neat feature that everyone should try. So, let’s take a look at the Snapchat Bounce feature.

How do you Make a Boomerang/Bounce Video on Snapchat?

The Bounce feature is quite easy to use. By following just a few steps, you can quickly and easily make a Boomerang on Snapchat.

We’ll walk you through the steps below, starting with instructions on how to update your app to make sure it has the most up-to-date features.

Updating Snapchat

Before you actually start using Bounce, you need to make sure that your Snapchat is updated. The update gets you all of the latest features, which means that you can start using Bounce when the update is complete.

To make sure your Snapchat app is updated, follow these steps:

  1.  Open the App Store on your iPhone.
  2. Go to Updates to find all of the apps, including Snapchat, that need updating.
  3. Press the update button and wait until your device downloads all of the latest software updates.

After the updates are complete, leave the App Store and relaunch Snapchat to start using the Bounce feature at your leisure.

Press and Hold the Capture Button

When you open Snapchat and get your camera ready, press and hold the “Capture” button that appears on your Camera screen. Record until you get the video you are happy with.

Tap the Infinity Loop

It doesn’t matter if you go over the designated length because you can trim the video later if you’d like.

Tap on the infinity loop icon after recording. Move the “Bounce” slider where you’d like to input your Bounce. You can tap the infinity icon several times to let your recipients watch an ever-ending loop or just once.

Moving the slider left or right adjusts the time frame of the video that you want to Bounce. If you move the slider to the left, the beginning of the video will be Bounced. On the other hand, moving the slider to the right lets you select the middle or the end section of the clip.

At any given time, you will be able to have a quick preview of the loop and make some final adjustments until you are completely happy with the preview.

Share Your Loop

Hit the white arrow in the bottom-right corner to share your Bounce video. You can add the loop to your story or share it with one of your friends. This is entirely up to you. Just select the sharing option you want and for the next 24 hours, your Snapchat friends will be able to watch and enjoy your Bounce loop.

Can You Use Bounce on Android?

Unfortunately, if you’re using an Android device, you won’t be able to add Bounce to your arsenal of Snapchat tools. As of May 2020, Bounce remains an iOS-exclusive feature. Android users, for now, will have to settle for Boomerang on Instagram.

Keep in mind, though, you can still loop videos on Android; however, the Bounce feature, which allows you to loop a specific portion of the video, has yet to come to Android.

Other Looping Options

If you don’t want to create a Bounce, you can use the loop feature to accomplish other tasks.

Limitless Snaps

Before Bounce was actually introduced, Snapchat users could utilize the Limitless Snap option. Limitless Snaps are enabled when you press down on the Infinity icon. This option lets you choose the number of snaps you wish to take and play as part of an infinite loop.

A Regular Loop

If you don’t want to use the Bounce option, you can also just choose to loop your videos without the back and forth motion. This option was introduced way back before Bounce, so long-time Snapchat users are likely already familiar with it. With the latest update, you need to tap twice on the Infinity icon to activate a regular loop.

Customizing Your Bounce

Just like with any other Snap, you can add text, stickers, and add links. To do this, tap any of the options on the right-hand side of your Snapchat bounce video.

Tapping the ‘T’ icon at the top gives you a text box to type in while tapping the pen icon allows you to write or draw. If you tap the sticky note icon you can choose from a plethora of stickers.

Finally, tapping the attachment link gives you the option to insert a URL to a webpage which is great for influencers and marketers.

Simply paste your URL into the text box at the top of the screen and you’re good to go.

Because your bounce video is a short snippet of content, you can actually add to it making it more interesting or even more informative. Play around with the functions and make the perfect revolving Snap!

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Android users ever get the Bounce feature?

Unfortunately, as of 2021, there is no official word from Snapchat for Android users. Rumors began circulating back in 2018 when the feature was launched for iOS users that developers were working on it. But, here we are nearly three years later with no option to use the boomerang-like feature. u003cbru003eu003cbru003eOf course, Snapchat does accept feedback on u003ca href=u0022https://support.snapchat.com/en-US/a/shake-to-reportu0022u003ethe support pageu003c/au003e. If you’re an Android user who has been patiently waiting on the feature, it’s probably a good idea to submit it as a suggestion and get your friends to do the same.

Can I upload a boomerang to Snapchat?

Absolutely! Especially for those who do not have feature natively, you can create a short clip and click the Card icon next to the record button on Snapchat’s home page to upload a video you’ve recorded somewhere else. Select the Loop option as mentioned above to make your video play over and over again. This is a workaround, but it’s as close as we can get you to a boomerang with Snapchat’s current limitations.
