How to Increase FPS in Apex Legends on Windows 10

Battle Royale games are currently the most fun battle games to play, but they require the most out of your computer.

Apex Legends is no exception when it comes to system requirements. If you have outdated PC equipment or a low-budget PC and what to increase your FPS in Apex Legends, this article will explain what you can do.

Apex Legends: Minimum System Requirements

First things first: it is absurd to even try and run Apex Legends on a computer that simply cannot support this game. No configuration or add-ons can provide you with this boost if your computer is not strong enough.

With that in mind, you should first check if your computer at least matches the following configuration. These are the minimum system requirements for running Apex Legends:

CPU: AMD FX-4350 4.2 GHz Quad-Core Processor/ Intel Core i3-6300 3.8GHz
GPU: Radeon HD 7700 / NVIDIA GeForce GT 640

If your computer doesn’t match all of the requirements mentioned above, then it isn’t advised that you try to run this game.

Apex Legends: Increasing FPS

There are several methods that can increase the FPS in Apex Legends. Keep in mind that the following methods aren’t guaranteed to work on every computer that can run this game.

Trying these methods won’t ruin or damage the Apex Legends installation files. You can thus try all of them and see if they work for you.

Configure Launch Options

1. Open up Origin.
   
2. Navigate to your Game Library.
   
3. Select Apex Legends from your list of games.
   
4. Click the Settings icon.
   
5. Select Game Properties.
   
6. Go to the Advanced Launch Options tab.
   

Under the Game Language setting in the Advanced Launch Options tab, you’ll see the Command Line Arguments text field. Enter the following -novid +fps_max unlimited. After you’ve entered the previous commands, click on Save.

The first command (-novid) doesn’t regulate your in-game FPS. However, it takes care of your in-game respawn splash screen which could improve your FPS in the long run. The second command (+fps_max unlimited) removes the default FPS cap.

In-Game Settings

Although the settings that you can adjust in-game depend on your preferences, there are certain options that can lead to higher FPS.

1. Launch Apex Legends, Click on the “Settings” icon at the bottom-right section.
   
2. In the popup menu, select “Settings.”
   
3. Click on the “Video” tab at the top.
   
4. The Display Mode, which is the first setting that you’ll see, should be left at Full Screen. Ensure that the mode is set correctly.
   
5. The Aspect Ratio works best if it’s set to your monitor’s native aspect ratio. Ensure that this setting is correct.
   
6. When it comes to Resolution, it isn’t as simple as one might think. If you have a good computer (check the system requirements above to determine where you stand), you should set this setting to your monitor’s native resolution. On the other hand, if you have a low-end computer, make the resolution smaller so that everything can run more smoothly.
   
7. The Field of View setting is also quite crucial. The lower you set it, the better your game will run. That is due to in-game rendering that drains too much of your GPU’s power. You should be careful with this setting as lowering it too much can affect your in-game visibility.
   
8. If the V-Sync setting is enabled, make sure to switch it off.
   
9. The Texture Streaming Budget should be set to whatever memory your GPU has. Check your GPU’s memory and then configure this setting accordingly.
   
10. Most other settings should be set to Low if you have a low-end computer. Those settings include Sun Shadow Coverage, Sun Shadow Detail, Spot Shadow Detail, Model Detail, Effects Detail, Impact Marks, and Ragdolls.
    

PC Settings

If you’re playing Apex Legends on a laptop, make sure that its battery mode is set to High Performance. Besides that, check if all of your computer’s drivers (regardless if you’re using a laptop or desktop computer) are up-to-date.

You should especially focus on your GPU drivers.

If you have an NVIDIA GPU, it is advised that you perform some optimizations. Here’s what you should do:

Clean Temporary Files

If you haven’t cleaned your computer’s temporary files, chances are that even a few gigabytes of storage are being taken up for no reason.

1. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
   
2. Navigate to the Manage 3D Settings option.
   
3. Select the Program Settings tab.
   
4. Find Apex Legends.
   
5. Click on the Select the Preferred Graphics Processor for This Program option.
   
6. From the dropdown menu, select High-performance NVIDIA processor.
   
7. Configure the Maximum pre-rendered frames setting to 1.
   
8. Set Power Management Mode to maximum.
   
9. Set Preferred Refresh Rate to maximum.
   
10. Apply all changes and navigate to the Adjust Desktop Size and Position setting.
    
11. Check the Override the Scaling Mode Set by Games and Programs checkbox.
    
12. Apply all settings and exit.
    

This happens because your computer’s operating system constantly stores previously used data and files in the Temp folder. It is advised that you delete those files from time to time.

Here’s how you can do that:

1. Press the Start button.
2. Type Run in its Search bar and hit enter.
3. Type %temp% in the Run window – that will take you directly to the Temp folder.
4. Delete everything from the Temp folder.

This process is not only completely safe but also quite beneficial for your computer. It can also reflect on your in-game FPS.
