How To Resolve Connection Issues Between Your Huawei P9 and Your PC

If you have a Huawei P9 smartphone, you may decide to connect it to your PC by a USB cable. There are several reasons for making a connection like this. Most commonly, you may wish to use the USB cable to transfer files between the phone and the PC. Alternatively you may just want to charge your Huawei P9 and the PC’s USB port is the handiest option for that. Less commonly, you may wish to use the PC to debug the phone, or tether the phone to the PC so you can use its Internet connection on the larger machine.

Regardless of your reason for doing it, sometimes when you connect your Huawei P9 to your PC, the connection will not be recognized on the PC side. You will usually see an error message when this occurs, something like “Device Not Recognized” or “driver could not be installed.” In this article I will present a few troubleshooting tips you can use to resolve this issue and get your Huawei P9 smartphone to connect correctly with your PC.

Method One: Restarting Your Phone

The first step to take is to disconnect your phone from the PC, turn your phone off and then restart it. After it has restarted completely, try connecting it to the PC via the USB cable again.

Method Two: Reboot/Restart Your PC

Sometimes the issue is on the PC end of things. The USB port may have shut down due to a software or resource conflict. Rebooting or restarting the PC may resolve things.

Method Three: Debug the Huawei P9

Still no luck? On your Huawei P9, select Settings and then browse for “developer options”. Select “USB debugging” and turn it on. Now connect the Huawei P9 to the PC via the USB cable and see if it is recognized.

Method Four: Try Another Cable

Sometimes USB cables fail and you can spend a huge amount of time looking for a software solution when the problem is just a bad cable. If all else fails, swap out the USB cable and see if that fixes the problem.
