How to Make Kindle Fire Font Bigger

Kindle Fire HD tablet is an upgrade of the simple, yet effective Amazon’s Kindle reader. Since it runs the good old Fire OS, you may use it both as a smart device and a convenient e-book reader.

How to Make Kindle Fire Font Bigger

However, some users have reported that the device’s font is too small both in the system menu and in the Kindle app. Even if you think the font size is tiny, there’s no reason to worry. There’s a way to fix both of these problems.

This article will explain how to adjust the font size on your Kindle Fire.

About Kindle Fire’s Font Size

Most Kindle Fire tablets have a display font size of “1.” If you feel that the letters under the app icons or in the system menus seem too tiny, you may increase them. The same goes for the font size in the Kindle app.

Some users may find the Kindle book font size too small. Changing the menu font size won’t change the Kindle book size, though. That’s why you need to adjust the two separately.

You should keep in mind some things regarding font size. On some Kindle Fire devices, menu and text font sizes are locked and you can’t do anything to change them. In addition, if your Kindle book is in PDF format, there’s no way to change the font. So, if the methods outlined below don’t work for your Kindle Fire – that’s the reason why.

Change Menu Font Size

If you’re unsatisfied with the font size in your Kindle menu, you can increase it a bit. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Swipe down from the top on your Kindle Fire Home screen. A quick access bar should appear.
  2. Tap the “Settings” icon on the right side of the bar.

  4. Locate the “Font Size” option. If it’s set to default, you’ll see “1” on the bar next to it.

  5. Tap the “+” sign on the bar next to it to increase the font size. You can increase the font size up to “3.”

Note: You’ll need to tap the “Font Size” option on some Kindle Fire devices. Then, you may choose between Normal (size 1), Large (size 2), and Huge (size 3).

Return to the Home screen and you should notice that the font size under the app icons got bigger. However, the majority of your apps have fixed font size. So, when you launch them you may not notice any difference. On the other hand, fonts in places such the Silk browser’s address bar will appear larger.

Change Font Size for a Kindle Book

You may be happy with the overall font size on your Kindle Fire and still want to make Kindle book letters bigger. Fortunately, there’s an easy way to format and customize the Kindle app settings according to your preferences.

  1. Open the book you want to read in the Kindle app.
  2. Tap anywhere on the screen to display the toolbar.
  3. Tap the “Aa” (Settings) button. A new menu will appear.

In this menu, you’ll be able to change three things – font size, font, and publisher font (if available). Increasing the font size will make the text appear larger and more readable. Additionally, if you don’t like the default font, you can change it by tapping the font button. The publisher font option can appear if the book’s publisher recommends a specific font.

Additional Customization Options

You may customize your Kindle Book in other ways, too. The “Settings” menu offers three more adjustments – line spacing, color mode, and margins.

Line spacing will adjust the space between each line (above and below). With the Color mode option you can change the background color of your Kindle book. The default is white, but you may switch to sepia or black if you prefer. Margins option lets you determine the size of the blank space on the edges of the screen. You can choose between normal, wide, and narrow margins.

Screen Magnifier

A screen magnifier is an alternative way to get bigger letters on your Kindle Fire. Although it’s not a permanent solution, it may help you when the web page font is tiny, or when you want to enlarge smaller elements in your Kindle book (e.g. footnotes). To enable it, follow these steps:

  1. Swipe down from the top to access the toolbar.
  2. Tap the “Settings” icon.
  3. Go to “Accessibility.”
  4. Toggle the “Screen Magnifier.”

After you toggle the Magnifier, you can tap any area of the screen three times and it will get bigger. You’ll also be able to pinch the screen inward or outward to adjust the screen size.

Screen Size Matters, Too

If you’ve tried all of the above and you’re still not satisfied with the font size, there’s not much that you can do.

The only way to solve the problem is to get a Kindle Fire (or another tablet) with a bigger display. Naturally, the image will be bigger and the font size should be larger.
