How To Make a Photo Collage with Flickr Photos
Since this article grabbed your attention, it’s safe to assume you are an avid Flickr user. You’ve already uploaded a bunch of photos to your Flickr account and now you want to make a cool collage from them. As there is no native option on Flickr, you’ll need to resort to third-party apps and web-based services to make the collage.
The following sections give you all the tips and tricks to create an outstanding collage with your Flickr photos. But first things first, let’s see what you should do before designing a collage.
Before You Start
The images are uploaded to Flickr and you need to download them first unless you have a special Flickr folder on your smartphone or computer. Here is how to do it.
Log into your Flickr account, select You, and click on Photostream from the drop-down menu. You can also select Albums or whichever tab contains the images.
Select the image you want to use in the collage and click the Download (arrow down) icon at the bottom right. There are no batch downloads, so you’ll need to repeat the process for every image.
If you are using a smartphone, the process is pretty similar. Tap on the profile icon at the bottom right, select All or Albums, and tap the photo you want to use. Hit the Share icon (bottom right) and select “Save Image.”
For the purposes of this article, we’ve used an iPhone and a MacBook. The same actions apply for Android and Windows users. But if you are on a Mac, you can quickly share Flickr photos via AirDrop without using the browser.
Designing a Photo Collage with Flickr Images
Now that the photos are ready, it’s time to start creating. As indicated, you’ll need to use a third-party app or websites to make the collage. And the tools we’ve selected can work across different devices and operating systems.
BigHugeLabs Mosaic Maker
To make things clear from the start, Mosaic Maker is not an app but a web-based service. That said it works well within mobile and desktop browsers and is one of the quickest options.
The page provides quick customization tools to get a specific collage template. You can choose layout type, the number of rows and columns, spacing, and there are a few options to choose images. For example, if you select “Flickr faves” you can enter the Flickr ID and the service picks up all your favorites for the collage.
You can set the option to “Individually” and put in the Flickr URLs for each image you want to use. Once done, click or tap Create and your collage is ready in a few seconds. In the next window, click Download or Share to get the final design.
Canva is one of the best free design software you can get. As such, it is the perfect tool to create a stunning collage, plus it gives you the option to re-upload the design to different social media. On desktop/laptop computers, Canva works via a browser and you need the app for mobile devices.
Either way, the UI is super simple to navigate and you should have the collage ready in a matter of minutes. Select Photo Collage under “Create a Design”, choose a template, and upload your Flickr images. If you use a desktop, just drag and drop the pictures into the layout.
There are many customization options, you can add text, get different background color, use shapes (on desktop version), and more. When you finish, hit the Download or Share buttons and you’re done.
Fotor is another web-based app that features a special module for creating like-worthy collages from your Flickr photos. Like with Canva, you need to sign up for the service and there is an app for Android and iOS devices.
To create a collage, select the “Make a Collage” and choose one of the available styles, funky, classic, and artistic collage, or photo stitching. Select the collage template in the next window and drag and drop your images to upload them. You should know that some templates are only available with a premium account.
It is also worth noting that Fotor has an excellent editor. You can upload your photos to the editor first and fine tune color and tone curves or resize the image to perfectly fit the collage.
