How To Message a Person who Blocked you in Instagram

Can you message a person who blocked you in Instagram? Can you tell if they have blocked you? How do I find out why they blocked me? All these questions and more will be answered on this page.

Social media has enriched our lives immensely but it has also brought a raft of new anxieties and insecurities with it. Social media anxiety is now a thing and there is a lot of work being done by psychologists to figure out how we are affected by events that happen on social networks.

Call it passive aggressive, call it a sign of our times but social media blocking is something that affects all of us in one way or another. From obsessing over why to being angry, we all react differently to being blocked. The fortunate few move on without a backward glance while the rest of us take a while to get to grips with it. It is for this latter group that I wrote this post.

Can you message a person who blocked you in Instagram?

Depending on the circumstances, you may want an explanation of why someone has blocked you or to explain why something happened the way it did. Being able to contact that someone would be the easy way to do both of those. Unfortunately, you’re out of luck. Once someone blocks you on Instagram, you have no way of contacting them through the network.

You could ask a mutual friend to contact them. You could try to contact them on a different network or other method but you can no longer do it in Instagram.

Can you tell if they have blocked you?

Have they definitely blocked you? It’s hard to tell as Instagram doesn’t say anything. If their profile suddenly disappears and you cannot find it, can no longer see their Stories or posts, chances are you have been blocked. Search for them and they won’t be there.

An easy way to find out is to use someone else’s phone. Borrow a friend’s account and search for the person. If they are there and contactable for them but not you, you have likely been blocked.

Is it easy to block someone on Instagram?

Yes it is easy to block someone on Instagram. A little too easy it seems. Every social network should have the tools necessary to block toxic users but these tools are also used too often to ghost or just drop people we no longer want to talk to.

  1. Open Instagram and select the persons profile.
  2. Select the three dot menu icon to access the menu.
  3. Select Block and confirm.

That’s all you have to do to block someone. Again, it’s great that we have these tools for annoying or abusive users but it is very easy to block normal people too.

How do I find out why they blocked me?

This is the big question and the one you will either obsess over for a while or totally ignore. If you’re not the ignoring type, the fact that you have been blocked pales into insignificance beside the why. Sometimes it will be obvious. You said something offensive on a night out or date. You said something dumb in an insta chat or sent a pic you really shouldn’t have. The reasons are many and we have all been there.

The easiest way to handle being blocked is to shrug it off and move on. That friendship wasn’t to be and there are more out there to be had. This is both the good thing about social media and the bad. Friendships are disposable and can be picked up and put down on a whim. That’s part of the problem and part of the solution. On one hand, disposable friends can be blocked for the dumbest of reasons.

If you’re blocked, you can find new friends just as easily as the one who blocked you. Of course, it isn’t always as easy as that and you have a raft of rejection anxieties to process first.

More often, users will try to gather support against the person who blocked them, label the person as childish or immature or consider the block as something to brag about. The best way to handle being blocked is to shrug your shoulders and move on. It might not be personal, it might not be your fault. It is just how it is.

Acceptance is easier to say than achieve but if you want to remain on social media and remain mostly sane, it’s the only way to survive. Otherwise you risk obsessing over it and winding yourself up into a tight spring ready to explode at something or someone else. Life is too short for that and Instagram has way too many cool people for that.
