Minecraft, the hugely popular block-based sandbox game, is heading to the Xbox One this Friday, September 5th. Following a tweet from the game’s developer announcing the impending release, Xbox spokesperson Larry Hryb (a.k.a. “Major Nelson”) reported that owners of Minecraft on the Xbox 360 will be able to upgrade to the Xbox One edition for $4.99, while all others will be able to pick the game up on the Xbox Store for $19.99.

The ability to upgrade at a discount is unusual on its own, but owners of the game will also be allowed to transfer Minecraft Xbox 360 content to the Xbox One. A similar release and upgrade plan will also be available for the PlayStation 4. Minecraft for current-generation consoles was first announced in June.

Since its original release for the PC in late 2011, Minecraft has exploded in popularity, selling more than 54 million copies across all platforms, including 12 million on the Xbox 360. With the release of Minecraft for Xbox One and PS4, the game will be available on 12 different platforms.
