Is Nike Run Club Accurate on a Treadmill?

The Nike Run Club app can be an excellent companion when you go on a run around the block on a lovely sunny day. But what if the weather is not that great? Can you also use it on a treadmill in the gym? Read the article to find out.

Nike Run Club and Indoor Workouts

Bad weather shouldn’t stop you from working out. There are plenty of ways to do it at home or a gym. If you still want to use the Nike Run Club app while running on a treadmill, we have good news for you – it’s more than possible. The app has a feature designed for this particular purpose. Nike’s goal is to be your workout partner everywhere.

The only thing you need to do is switch the app to the Indoor mode, and you’re good to go. It’s compatible with running on a treadmill. If you decide to continue running outdoors, you need to set the mode back to Outdoor, and that’s all.

The Indoor mode should be selected when you’re using the NRC app on an iPod, your mobile network is disabled, and the Airplane mode is active on your phone.

According to Nike, the app can track your treadmill runs pretty accurately, and it’s pretty reliable indoors. You can always check your running history by opening the Activity tab and then choosing the History tab. You will be able to see all your runs listed from the most recent one to the first one recorded.

Of course, like all GPS-based fitness tracking apps, NRC isn’t 100% accurate, but It is far better than the built-in step counter on your phone. It is also a much more reliable tool than most of its competitors. Taking all of that into account, unless you’re a professional athlete, the NRC app won’t affect your workout routine or diminish your results.

Note that the Apple Watch and Android Wear only allow you to see the five most recent runs.

What Kind of Runs Does the App Support?

Not only does the Nike Run Club app track your indoor runs, but it also puts a variety of runs at your disposal. Sometimes you’ll feel like jogging and relaxing your muscles, while sometimes you’ll be in the mood for an intense, high-speed run. The NRC app knows it and lets you choose whichever type of run suits the occasion.

First of all, there’s the Basic one – no rules whatsoever. Your time and distance are not limited. There’s also the Distance run, where the time doesn’t matter, but you set the distance you want to run.

There’s the opposite, too – when you set the duration of your training, but it doesn’t matter how far you’ll come. The Speed run lets you mark laps manually, while the Audio Guided Run acts as a personal coach who will guide you through the run. You can download these to your phone or your Apple watch.
